Prologue
"What are you having?" The lunch lady Margaret looked on expectedly at the skinny figure in front of her, her patience running out by the minute as she knew how indecisive the teenager could be.
"Um... I'll have whatever the special today is" she pushed her black glasses up the bridge of her nose in habit, watching timidly as the lunch lady prepared her a salad. Seconds later she was pushed aside by a blonde girl before the lunch lady slid her food to her on the counter
"Thank you" her small voice echoed out of her mouth as she took her food and made it to the only vacant table in the cafeteria, the one by the rubbish bin. She took out her iPod and selected a song to get lost in as she ate her dry and slightly less appetizing salad.
She had been at Harold High Boarding school for two months and she still hadn't grasped the environment. She was surrounded by heirs and heiresses, high society children that made sure to make her feel like a lower class person.
Her father, a marine, sent her to the school after the passing of her mother due to pneumonia months ago. She left her friends and everything she was familiar with and was thrown to an environment she knew nothing off and sometimes she felt herself resent her father because of this.
All the kids in this school were bullies, they weren't just your typical bullies, they were wealthy bullies. Which was ten times worse.
She was pulled out of her zone by a tap on the shoulder; she took out her earphones and was met with a big smile directed at her. The action startled her bit; this was the only interaction she's had in two months with anyone else besides the teachers and lunch ladies
"Hi, I'm Mel short for Melissa. My friends are sitting over there and we were wondering if you wanted to join us?" her eyes averted to the friends Melissa was pointing at, she had seen the group only a handful of times in the cafeteria. They were the outcasts of the school she figured. They looked like they were artsy by the way they had redesigned their uniforms
"This is not some bet or anything mean like that I promise, we just don't want you to sit here all alone when our group clearly needs an extra member to complete it" Robyn smiled at her, partly because she could see that her group wasn't short of anyone else and because she was being so nice
"Okay" was all she needed to say for the other girl to smile excitedly at her, she gathered her food before they made it to the other table that had about 5 people on it. They all looked excitedly at the timid girl as Melissa introduced her
The group consisted of Cara Reed; The British Heiress to Reed In Hotels, Jourdan Combs; Heiress to Vortex Coal Limited, Aubrey Scott; Heir to Scott & Co. , Rumi Wintour; Daughter of legendary Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour, Khalid Malik; Heir to Ali & Malik GLOBAL and of course Melissa Campbell whose mom is super model Naomi Campbell.
Robyn was immediately welcomed by the group as they participated in an animated conversation, she found herself laughing as Rumi dramatically recalled her holiday in Milan with her mother for fashion week.
Every day she joined the group during lunch as they all got to know each other, every day she found the gap between her and the rich kids that had accepted her close a little. Other seniors continued to ignore her but at least now she had people that accepted her as she was.
"Holy shit!"
"Who the fuck is that?!"
"Bey!!"
Robyn looked up to her friends as they all held stunned looks on their faces, she took out her earphones confused by their reactions. She had missed the silence in the cafeteria and the stunned, some envious expressions on the rich kids' faces
She followed their gazed and found her own jaw fall when she saw her. Her blood ran cold and her heart felt as if it would jump out of her chest as her eyes took in the details of the angelic face in front of her.
She had never in the 18 years she had lived seen a more perfect face, the girl had a soft looking caramel face. Her body took the shape of an hour glass, when she smiled she blinded Robyn with small yet most perfect teeth she had ever seen. Her smile made the other girl's heart beat even faster.
She watched as Rumi ran into her arms and they embraced each other like old best friends. Robyn was confused by the pang of jealousy she felt in her heart as she watched the two girls greet each other excitedly
"Breathe Rob" Mel whispered teasingly in her friend's ear, Robyn remembered to take steady breathes as the two girls began approaching the table. The new girl seemed to find comfort in Rumi that she did not pay any attention to the eyes that followed her every move
"Guys this is Beyoncé, we met in Paris last year. Her mom was working with my mom on her vogue shoot. BeyBey this is Cara, Aubrey, Khalid, Jourdan, Melissa and Robyn" Rumi introduced the group by their seating arrangement. She politely shook their hands with the guys never passing up the opportunity to flirt with the gorgeous girl.
Robyn took the opportunity to take in every details she could, her eyes ran from the beauty spot on her left eyebrow, her thick yet perfect eyebrows, her beautiful lite brown eyes that seemed to sparkle every time she spoke about her favorite memory of France with the group.
"So, Beyoncé... you have a boyfriend?" Aubrey's question pulled the skinny girl out of her thoughts, she found herself also anticipating her response. The browned eyed angel laughed a little at the question
"Uh... No.. I don't think so" she responded, before Robyn could analyze her response Cara fired another question
"Girlfriend then?" Robyn wanted to laugh at her friend's hopefulness
"No ma'am" the pretty girl responded through a giggle, the crew laughed at Cara's disappointed face and even though she had laughed also, Robyn found herself also at bit disappointed at how sure she was this time
"So back to the boyfriend one, what do you mean you don't think so? Its either you do or you don't" Jourdan asked the beauty
"Well I was dating this boy but right now we're kind of in a... weird space" Robyn watched her shift uncomfortably as she explained and she suddenly felt bad for her
"Then why don't you just break it off?" Mel asked also seemingly confused, Robyn watched the beauty shift again before she could answer the question
"Guys, maybe she doesn't want to talk about it right now. She's been at the table for less than 10 minutes" Robyn surprised herself and her friends by interjecting, she usually minded her own business
"Yeah Rob is right, stop interrogating my friend you creeps. You'll scare her away" Rumi took the attention from both Robyn and Beyoncé.
Rob caught as grateful smile from the beauty before she zoned them out by listening to her music again. Her heart beating a mile out of her chest
