Emily's POV:
I never took Ryan for a guy to stand somebody up. I mean... it wasn't a date but, I wanted it to be. I was seriously looking forward to spending my time with him in Paradise. I'm not gonna complain too much though, I got to see him and he seemed happy, that's the most important thing.
Anyways, I woke up because Michelle came up to my room. She wanted to talk to me about something. Which did not give me a good feeling.
"Em... you know I love you..."
"Michelle, don't you even start, I know where this is going." I was soooo not about to let her tell me I've been acting weird the last few days. I wasn't. I'm not. Well... I didn't want to, Michelle is the "mom" of the group so I kinda listen to her anyway but still.
"Girl, you've been acting funny. In such a rush to run home and sleep, talking to yourself, don't think I haven't noticed."
"Come on! I'm always in a hurry to run away from school!"
"Yeah, to text me and Lex." She said, so stern... so disappointed. "You haven't been active in the group chat really, and I miss my meme master girl, Em. What's going on?"
"I mean, nothing really I just-" I couldn't even finish a sentence before she called me out. "Oh, love, it's something. My Emily doesn't just change on people."
"Yeah, mom, I got it, you're mad at me." I said softly, I've always been passive. I can't like.. hold my ground with people in these situations.. not alone. "Hey.. you got this," I heard that deep... hypnotic voice... Ryan's voice... "Just tell her you've been stressed and needed a little alone time. She can't be mad at that."
At this point, I'm just gonna do whatever Ryan says to do. He is way more equipped to handle this kinda thing. Avoiding confrontation is my specialty, not dealing with it.
He essentially helped me subdue the beast after another twenty minutes and Michelle sat on the bed. I watched her open her laptop and pull up Tumblr so we could meme gaze together. Honestly, the whole time, I was thinking about how Ryan just saved me. Ryan acts all hard with his friends but, I think he's a total sweetheart. He didn't have to help me. Wait a second... he wasn't here. I couldn't see him like the other times. He was in my head, completely. Are... are we getting better at this..?

Ryan's POV:
I went home after hooping with Warren, and I started researching reports and articles about telepathy and psychic links between people. I figured, if we're gonna have some kind of mutation, we might as well learn as much as we can about it. I honestly didn't find much at first, and I took a break to help Emily Rose handle an interrogation from her friend, but after a few hours I stumbled across a PDF from an international neurology firm. It talked about the 1970's alien propaganda, couple people claiming they were abducted, and even a few people whose brainwaves were much stronger than average people's. Strong enough to interact with the brainwaves of people with the same, or similar mental frequency, even from across the globe.
It all sounds a bit into the realm of SciFi but, it's the closest thing to an explanation I've got so far. So, this is my theory in regard to Emily Rose being in my head.
"Kitten," says the sweet, soothing voice of the flower herself, "I can't thank you enough."
"Oh, it's no big deal, Emily Rose." I chuckle with a smirk, "I like to think you'd do the same for me." At this point, I'm just trying to help a friend. It is not plausible to go for a goofball who lives so far away, even though I really really want to. Her pretty face, her curvaceous body, her golden hair, her laugh, her voice, her essence... damn... Girl got me swimming in my feelings.
"Hey.. um.. can I ask you something?" She asked, as nervous as a fish in Red Lobster.
"Yeah, go ahead, Em."
"Can... can you read my thoughts at all?"
"No, but I think we're gonna start seeing each other more vividly soon. I've been looking up some things about our little secret and I think our brains just surf the same waves. In layman's terms, our heads have wifi and Paradise is the internet."
"Holy shit, Ryan! Like.. we already kinda talk to each other and visit each other and stuff, but this is a whole new kinda weird! Did you just say you found research on this!? Like, we aren't the first?? More people have this connection?!"
She was beaming from ear to ear from excitement to not be an abomination. Which made me laugh, I think she was kinda worried about that.
"Look, don't worry about all the details," I said, trying to get her to let me focus a little bit, "just know I'm gonna keep researching us and see if we can do anything else with this. Okay?"
"Okay." She said with the most beautiful smile I've ever seen.
"Go get some rest for me."
"Later, Kitten."
"Later, Em."
