Aniya's POV
POW!
I felt a warm liquid splash on my neck and I almost lost it. No, no no no. We were just about to have dinner. God please no, I thought to myself as I laid on my stomach. I slowly turned on my back with my eyes glued to the underneath me. I saw a puddle of blood on the floor in front of me and wiped the back of my neck. I shrieked at the blood on my finger tips. I couldn't bring myself to look up in fear of the worst.I finally gained the courage to look up and saw Devonté's back to me with his head down. Thank GOD, I said to myself holding my chest. So who's blood was that? I thought to myself. I stood to my feet and tried to move from behind Devonté but he turned to face me and kept blocking my view. "Why won't you let me see?" I asked confused. "Because ma, I don't want you to see this," he said sternly as he tried to usher me away from the scene. "Why not?" I asked getting annoyed. "You don't listen! I know what I'm telling you man, dang! Let's go!" he said pulling me towards the car.
I decided to just comply and leave because all he'll do is just keep blocking me and end up picking my little as up and walking me to the car. As we started walking he let my arm go to make a phone call and curiosity got the best of me. I turned back quickly before he could stop me and my heart stopped. My words got caught in my throat and my legs felt like noodles before my stomach started turning. I stumbled backwards and almost fell before Devonté picked me up and carried me to the car. Seeing someone's brain splattered across the ground and their head just split open was the last thing I thought I would see. Disgusted was an understatement. I knew there was no way that image was leaving my head any time soon. I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard his car door open. He gently placed me in the passenger seat and put my seat belt on before he kissed my forehead and walked to the drivers side.
"What the fuck happened back there?" I asked calmly as soon as he sat in his seat. He paused then continued on to put his seat belt on as if nothing had just happened. "I know I'm not talking to the wall," I said staring at the side of his face. He completely ignored me and reached in the back to look for something. I took off my seatbelt ready to get the fuck out that car and take an Uber. He quickly turned around at the sound of me trying to open the door and I instantly flinched. His face softened as he saw my back against the door. "Aniya I will never hurt you ma," he said to me.
"Devonté I asked what happened back there," I said looking him straight in the eyes. He broke eye contact before sighing and picking up his phone to make a call. "Some shit just went down bruh, I need something cleaned up Danger," he said into the phone. I stared at him in disbelief. "Iighh man, Ima send you the address and meet you..." he said before I slapped the phone out of his hand. He stared straight ahead and clenched his jaw.
"What the fuck happened?!" I yelled at him out of frustration. "That nigga got his fuckin head blown off back there! That's what the fuck happened! I know you saw it," he yelled at me. Tears slowly began to fill my eyes as I looked at him in shock. He said it like there was absolutely nothing wrong with what he just did. "I told you I didn't want you to see Aniya," he said rubbing his hands over his face. "You'd rather him kill us ?!" He said. I didn't even wanna ask what he did for a living because I can already tell from this incident.
"Can you take me home?" I said softly. "You serious right now Aniya?" He said looking at me. My head was pounding and I couldn't get the guys brain splattered on the floor out of my head. I could feel him burning a hole through the side of my head but I continued looking out the window. He sighed then switched the gear to drive and pulled off. The drive to my house was filled with silence. How did our night do a 360 turn like this, I thought to myself.
As the grocery stores and trees passed my vision grew blurry. I blinked it away but it got even worse and I felt my insides turn. My heart beat picked up and I felt a sudden rush of heat despite the air condition on in the car. I put the air condition on high and Devonté looked at me with his eyebrow raised. I bent over as my mouth got watery and I knew what was happening. Devonté quickly pulled over before putting the car in park as I tried to take my seatbelt off but failed. "Hospi, hossy," I tried to say but the words but it all came out slurred. Devonté rushed out of the car and came to my side. I saw his mouth moving but I couldn't make out the words. Everything sounded inaudible before I blacked out.
