A soft beeping is what brings Maple out of the darkness, the light behind her closed eyelids getting brighter as she slowly comes to. Squinting her eyes she looks around at her surroundings, the smell of disinfectant and bleach assaults her nose, hinting towards where she currently lays. Slowly pulling herself up into a sitting position, Maple grimaces from the feeling of what seems to be a stitch being pulled somewhere along her body.
Blinking her eyes open to wash away the blinding light, Maple's eyes slowly focus on the bodies sitting on each side of her, a small smile pulls at the corners of her mouth once she sees that the bodies belong to her parents.
Aaron Latimer sits to the girls left, while her mother, Susan, sits to her right, each resting their hands on a limb attached to their daughter. Maple observes the side of her fathers face, noting the tired look that looms over his being, she sees the lines and grey hair that indicate stress, and the small frown tugging at his closed mouth.
Feeling eyes on him, Aaron's eyes shoot open faster than a bullet, seeing his daughter awake and staring directly at him puts his heart at ease, with a soft smile that reaches his eyes, he opens his mouth to speak, his words coming out raspy due to being asleep.
"Maple, you scared the hell out of your mother and me" a bell like laughter ripples through out the room, jolting Susan from her sleep, her hair sticking in all kinds of directions as she rubs the sleep from her eyes. Focusing on her husband, she follows his gaze to her daughter who now sits with a wide smile directed towards her.
"Hey mum" Susan's eyes crinkle as they narrow towards her smirking child. "Don't you 'hey mum' me, you almost gave your father and I a heart attack! What happened to you Maple?"
Cocking her head to the side, Maple tries to remember what events had lead to her waking up on an uncomfortable hospital bed with her parents by her sides. Eyes widening, Maple starts to remember what happened to her, her house and the man known as Chaos. "Y'know, I may need a new house now that I think about it"
"And that's why I need a new house" Maple had just finished telling her parents about the past events that lead them to their current position. Her parents both shared uneasy looks, casting short glances towards their daughter, when Maple caught these looks, her eyebrow rose and her lips pressed into a thin line.
"I don't like those looks, whats going on?" Looking back and forth between her parents, Maple searched their faces, trying to decipher what their looks meant. "Maple, sweetie" her mother began, resting a soft hand on top of hers, "that man, the one you said was in your house last night. You killed him, years ago, Maple. There was another incident, he was there and... And we saw your powers kill him."
The breath was knocked from Maples lungs at the information she had just been told. The man she faced off with, the man who called himself Chaos, the man she was apparently made of, wasn't alive. She didn't believe it, she couldn't everything she felt and did last night was too real for this to all be made up.
What about the house, the fire, the ground opening beneath her feet. Maple saw all of this with her very own eyes, she could smell the scent of burning wood, and of the storm raging outside. She scanned her parents faces with wide eyes, trying to see any indication that they were lying. They weren't.
"I need to sleep" was the last thing Maple Latimer muttered to her parents before laying back down and closing her eyes, willing herself to fall asleep and to wake up and see this was all a dream. She could hear her parents sigh, could feel the movement of their bodies as they stood, could hear their foot steps get softer the further they got from their daughter and her hospital bed.
The last thing Maple thought about before being pulled into darkness, was the fact that, if none of this was real, what did she really do? How much damage did she cause this time? And would she ever get answers for why she was cursed with the power of disaster and destruction.
