Ariel's Point of View

You never really think about losing those you care about. You always think that it's gonna be okay and that it's all gonna be fine. I never expected to lose my parents. We're taught from a young age that nothing lasts forever and nothing stays the same. We're taught that one day our parents will die, that they won't be here to take care of us anymore. I never thought I'd lose mine. Well, more like they were ripped away from me by the inevitable jaws of death. Not the point. The point is, we should cherish those we love and we should let them know we love them and that they mean something to us.

"Ariel!" I immediately snapped out of my thoughts, "Yes ma'am?" I spoke softly, but loud enough to be heard. "I want you to do some things today" she spoke, glaring at me with her murky green eyes. Miss Hope contradicted her name. She had no hope in any of us. She failed to believe in anything other than drugs and alcohol. I'd say sex too, but she can't seem to find anyone willing to fuck her. She took a big drink of what she called her 'happiness' and glared at me again. "Of course, I'll do whatever it is" I spoke again. "Good you little brat. Now, I want this house spotless. All 35 rooms, swept, mopped, dusted, and I want the floor scrubbed with a toothbrush. Make sure to clean every tub, shower, toilet and do the dishes. You've got until 5:30!" She barked. "Yes ma'am!" I yelled and began working. I went downstairs and saw that Victoria was making lunch for the other kids. I went to head back upstairs when I felt a tug on my shirt.

"Ariel, can you tie my shoes for me?" Alessa asked. I smiled and tied them. She's the youngest, only 5, so she hasn't learned yet. Once I had walked her to the couch and turned on a TV show for her, I went back to cleaning. I'm used to cleaning this place so it wasn't a big deal to me anymore. Being the oldest, I have to do everything. I'm 17, if you're wondering. And I've got a blue eye and a brown eye. A lot of people think I have colored contacts, but the doctors themselves have told me it's natural. My hair is a lilac color and it's down to my waist when braided.

The doorbell rang and I went to answer the door. In front of me stood a guy who seemed around my age with brownish blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes. "Hey love, can you tell me where the orphanage is around here?" He asked, playing with his lip ring. "Oh, um yeah. It's here. This is the orphanage. I'll go get Miss Hope. You uh, you can come in" I spoke softly. Soon, three more guys followed him in. One had curly hair and wore a bandana, one had a kind of galaxy thing going on with his hair, and the other looked Asian. Well okay then.

I went upstairs and got Miss Hope. I then continued to clean. It was 4:00 so I had an hour and a half to finish. I just had to do the dishes from the kids' lunch. Awesome. I had my earbuds plugged in and my music playing. I hummed along to the song that was playing. It was one of my favorites. I softly sang as I washed the dishes. "If they say 'Who cares if one more light goes out? In the sky of a million stars, it flickers, flickers....' If a moment is all we are, we're quicker, quicker..." Suddenly someone was beside me drying the dishes. I looked to my left, and sure enough Asian boy was drying the plates for me. "Hey, you should get back to your friends, I've got it" I spoke softly. He ignored me and continued drying them. "You sing well" he grinned. I blushed and looked down, "thanks..."

"Hey, Calum, it's time to talk to the girls," Galaxy Hair said. So Asian boy is Calum. "Okay, be there in a sec!" Calum responded. He then turned his attention to me, "You'll be the last one we talk to" he smiled and walked out. I furrowed my eyebrows and went back to the dishes. By the time I finished they had already talked to about 12 of the girls. There were 3 others besides me. They called Claire in, she was 14. She rolled her eyes at me and put on the fakest smile I'd ever seen as she entered the room and closed the door behind her. I shook my head and put in my earbuds, playing a song by Nickelback. Once Claire exited the room, it was Amanda's turn. She went in and the door was closed once again. Once it was Victoria's turn I smiled and hugged her. I hope she gets adopted. She deserves it.

"Aww how cute, you think they're gonna adopt her? Please. They'll adopt me and we all know it" Claire sneered. "I mean, they definitely won't adopt Ariel, 'cause even her parents didn't want her" she laughed, knowing my parents died. I smiled and said, "I find it funny you say my parents didn't want me. They died. Your parents? They left you here because they couldn't handle your snobby attitude. You're just a bitch who can't seem to get over the fact that she's not perfect. Just because you don't like me doesn't give you the right to treat me like shit, because if I really wanted to, I could put you through a fucking wall. So I suggest, Claire, that you shut your mouth before I have no choice but to shut it for you." I bit back. Her eyes widened a little and she shut up, causing the girls around us to giggle. I heard an unfamiliar giggle and looked for the source. The curly-headed boy was giggling at it, causing me to smile. Victoria came over and high-fived me.

"Oh damn, that's a little harsh, but I guess she deserves it," Blue Eyes said. I followed them into the room and sat down. "So, let's get this over with. I doubt you'll adopt me, mostly because no one ever does, and when they do, I'm back within a week" I said, not caring what they thought. "I'm Ashton," curly hair said. Okay, Ashton. "That's Michael," he said pointing to Galaxy Hair, "and that's Luke" he pointed at Blue Eyes. "I think you've already met Calum" he smiled. I nodded "He helped me with the dishes. Thank you, Calum. Okay, what do you guys wanna know?" I spoke up. "Well, we know your name and the things that were in your file. So, uh, what kind of music do you like?" Michael asked. "I listen to a large variety, Nickelback, Sleeping With Sirens, All Time Low, One Direction, and a lot more," I said. "If you lived with one of them, would you freak out or be calm?" Calum asked me. "I'd be calm because they're just normal people. They make music because it's what they love and they do it to help others as well. I'd be a little shocked but I'd be happy living with them," I said truthfully. Their jaws dropped and they smiled, "Good cause you're gonna be living with us. We're 5 Seconds of Summer" Luke smiled.
