5 months later (month: May)

"Happy birthday toy ou! Happy birthday, happy birthday! Happy birthday, Haley!" I heard Ruby sing as I sat up on my bed.

I opened my eyes and I saw Ruby with a big smile on her face and a party hat on her head. She was standing infront of my bed and Nanny was beside her holding a birthday cake.

"Awwe. Thanks Ruby! Thanks Nan!" I smiled.

"Blow your candles out." Nan said as she neared me with the cake in her hands.

'I wish for a happy birthday with all my friends. I also wish that I'd get to see One Direction when they come back to LA.' I made my wishes and blew my candles.

"If you"re not doing anything with Chris today, I have some surprises I'd like to surprise you with." Ruby said suspiciously.

Chris is my boyfriend. We're in the same grade but I never knew him 4 months ago. That reminded me.. I checked my phone and there was a message from Chris.

Happy birthday, babe! I hope you'll have a great day! :)

• To: Chris <3

Hey! Thank you! Will you come over? x

• From: Chris <3

No. I'm sorry babe. Family problems. :(

• To: Chris <3

It's alright. Tell me how you and your family are doing after. Love you. <3

Will do. Love you too. <3 Happy birthday again!

"I don't have any plans with Chris today. Family problems." I turned to Ruby.

"Okay. Well then, I'll start with these!" Ruby pointed towards her feet.

I get out of bed and walk towards Ruby to see what she was pointing at.

"WOAH!!" I say surprised. "These are for me?!"

"Ofcourse, silly!"

"Ruby! You are the best!" I exclaimed as I gave her a big hug!

There were fifteen gifts and I opened each one of them. After I opened one gift, I would give Ruby a hug! I'm so thankful to have a thoughtful friend like her!

"The number of gifts I gave you represents your age now. Did you see what I did there?" She winked at me.

"Haha! Really? But there's only fifteen gifts? I'm already seventeen."

"Exactly. Now, let's have breakfast and let's change after. I'm bringing you somewhere later."

"Oh my god. Ruby, you know you don't have to do that." I smiled.

"Whatever Hale. Now, let's eat." She teased.

I followed her downstairs and ate with her and Nan. Time passed by as we just talked, talked, and talked.

I had a lot of thoughts in my mind at the moment. I was thinking about One DIrection. Could I ever meet them again? Their interview yesterday said that they'd come back to LA. I really wanted to seeHarry again. Before he left 5 months ago, he said he'd send me a message and keep in touch. I received zero messages from him. But I understand, they're always busy. I mean. They have their career to attend to. Then that led me to another thought- my parents. Today is my birthday and they didn't even greet me yet. They're always out of town and would just call me if they needed me ti send some e-mail. Well, at least they left me some money and a credit card. I wonder where they are now. Would they even remember that today is the birthday of their only daughter?

"Haley, come one. It's 10:00 in the morning and we have to leave by 11:00." Ruby said mother-like.

"Alright, Rube! Haha." I laughed.

I went up to my room to get my clothes and Ruby went to hers. Yeah, Ruby has her own room in 'my' house. It was supposed to be mine but I'm staying in the master's bedroom since my parents don't usually stay here anymore.

"What do I wear?!" I shout to Ruby next door.

"Something casual's alright." She immediately replied.

I got a pair of faded blue jeans, a colorful hippie tank-top, and black high-heeled oxfords. I got in the shower and took a bath. Afterwards, I did my hair in a messy bun and I did my make up. I got dressed and that's when Ruby called.

"Haley! Are you done? Let's go!"

"Yes! Wait a second. I'm coming." I replied.

I got my phone, wallet, and everything else I needed and shoved it in my tote bag. I walked as fast as I could downstairs and Ruby was already waiting for me.

"Finally!" Ruby teased.

We went out and hopped in Ruby's car. Ruby and I just recently got our driving licenses.

"Where are we going?" I asked as Ruby drove down the driveway.

"It's a surprise!"

We got to this fancy shop that sold dresses and dresses only! Ruby got out of the car and walked inside the shop. I followed her.

"What are we doing here?" I asked.

"Just wait and see." Ruby said. "Dress for Ms. Haley White, please."

"This way, ma'am." The employee said and led us to the dressing rooms.

As we got in, I saw this blue bubble cocktail dress with a sweetheart neckline. It had different shades of blue. It looked really pretty. I was so shocked to see it.

"This is your Haley. Wear it tonight." Ruby said.

"This is your sixteenth present?!" I asked.

"No. It's Chris' gift."

I smiled at that. Chris is so thoughtful. But then I realized...

"What do you mean I'll wear it tonight?"

"We're going somewhere and meet some people." Ruby smiled.

"What?? Where? Who?" I asked eagerly. What's to come?
