Our story begins with Connor collins an everyday nerd, standing five foot six inches tall, green eyes, shaggy brown hair, and red rectangular glasses. Connor was walking between classes one day, when he was cornered and shoved to the ground by his former best friend Nick Cooper, and a group of his friends.
"Well well, whats this? Why are you in my hallway nerd?" Nick was tall, six foot five, nearly a foot over connor, he worked out daily, and was the school's star baseball player.
"M...my english class i..is in this hallway nick..." was Connor's timid response. He knew where this was going, he knew what they wanted, to humiliate him, disgrace him, terrify him even.
"Yeah, I do know that, nerd, that's why me and the guys were waiting here to kick your ass." Nick's smirk widened slightly as he forcefully kicked connor in the stomach
"And if you're hoping one of the teachers will come save you, I had some friends handle that, they started a major brawl out in the courtyard, every single teacher is there."
Connors face paled at what Nick had just told him, for once he was truly defenseless, he couldn't do anything....he was weak, a failure.
"No...." Connor's timid voice nearly echoed through the hallway it was so silent, he wouldn't let this happen. Not anymore.
Nick's face quickly filled with rage, as he forcibly picked connor up, holding him nearly a foot off the ground, he brought Connor's face close to his "What was that, dweeb? I couldn't hear you."
Connor was shaking, he looked up, somehow, he wasn't scared right now. He wasn't terrified, he could feel it..he wasn't weak.
"I....i said...." Connor slowly raised his voice, he could feel it, a bubble in his gut, it needed to come out.
"I said...NO!"
Nobody, not Connor, not the jocks, nor the teachers and students in the courtyard truly understood what happened next. the entire school shook, as if a great beast from millions of years ago had woken up, tired and cranky, and roared. Nick and his friends were blown back, denting several lockers, looking up at connor, nick instantly knew something wasn't right, his eyes were reptilian, angry, uncontrolled, even fierce.
"Y....you're one of them! You're one of those freaks!" Nick's expression showed true fear, he was the one terrified.
Connor looked at himself, he felt truly powerful, he felt strong, he felt fast, he could do anything. His only real problem was that everything in his sight seemed like it was in a haze, he was thirsty. He needed water. No....he was starving, he needed meat. Raw bloody meat.
"No....no I need to stop this, I'm not an animal. What the hells wrong with me? I mean obviously I have the gene... but what the hell kind of animal am I?" Connor quickly jogged to the bathroom, he needed to get out of here as quickly as possible, but needed to see what was wrong. Looking into the mirror he nearly screamed again. His eyes were no longer their plain green color, now they radiated with hunger. His eyes a much darker green than usual, the skin surrounding his eyes were scaly, and unnatural looking compared to the rest of his body
"Am I a reptile?"
He turned his head slightly, hearing someone run down the hall towards the bullies. This was bad, he needed to leave before everyone knew what he was.
"What what exactly am i...? I thought the most common thing people who have The Connection, is a gorilla, or like, something else with physical strength.....what the hell am I...?" Connors thoughts were cut off by more footsteps running around, while he was thinking, it seems everyone was going back to their classes. He needed a new way out, he couldn't leave through the door.
Turning around, he looked at the bathroom window, it goes against state regulation, but the school refused to lock the windows in the bathroom, their negligence just saved his life. He quickly ran to the window, opened it, and looked out.
"Alright, grab the pole, slide down, run home as quickly as i can. I can do this." Connor reached out and took a hold of the pole, it violently shook, causing him to stop in his tracks.
"Can i do this? Am i totally sure this is possible?" even while questioning himself connor set each of his feet down on the pole, and began to slide. He was nearly to the bottom when another thought crossed his mind.
"Maybe this is a good thing, i finally stood up for myself and won't have to deal with nick bullying me anymore." Reaching the bottom Connor began his short jog home.
