Cold wind swept Cathy's auburn hair out of it's neatly packed bun while her bare feet slapped against the ground as she ran. She had ditch her shoes a few blocks back and her feet were freezing.
She already tore her dress trying to vigorously climb a brick apartment building's fire escape.
No matter how much she wanted to, she didn't dare risk a glance behind her.
She could feel her pursuer's eyes on her while he chased after her.
Panic clawed at her raw throat as she felt herself slowing.
Cathy pushed herself to get to the a free shuttle stop and her heart swelled when she saw the shuttle parked in it's lot, ready to go.
The driver paid her no attention when climbed in a middle seat and laid down so that she could see, but no one could see her.
The drive was only fifteen minutes to her sister's apartment on Charleston Avenue. Building 4, door 367.
After a few brisk knocks, a woman came to the door. Her brown, perfect legs were bare. She wore a shirt that covered her butt, but you could still tell she wasn't wearing anything under them except underwear. Her black hair hung to just above her waist in tight braids.
And her chocolate brown eyes stared at her visitor like she was a stranger.
"Alyssa, I'll explain inside, I swear." That was all the convincing Cathy had to say because after two seconds, the door opened the rest of the way and Cathy darted inside.
In the apartment were two children, both six, with caramel coloured skin and the same hair and eyes as their mother. Further into the home, Cathy spotted an eight year old girl that was nothing if not identical, in facial features and hair and eyes, to her mother.
"Hey, Avery." Cathy said to her daughter.
Avery smiled at her mother and ran toward her to hug her.
"Mommy, I missed you!" She whined.
Cathy smiled back and then remembered what she told her sister.
Alyssa's arms crossed over her chest and her eyes demanded answers. "Are you not worried that the press will storm through here any second? I saw the news about your building and I thought you were dead, but I didn't believe it -- I couldn't. So, I want some damn answers." Her sister informed her.
Cathy and Alyssa went into the spare bedroom and shut the door.
Cathy told her everything.
"Oh my, God." Was all Alyssa could manage to get out.
"I know. And it wounds me deeply that Eve paid the price she did; she was the only one who knew the truth... " Cathy couldn't bare to say another word when she saw the tears trickling down her sister's face.
"I suppose you can stay here, but I'll need to talk to Jack and Ava." Alyssa said slowly.
Alyssa had two kids, one boy and one girl. However, they were the kind of twins that thought exactly the same and wouldn't change their mind for anything.
Cathy nodded her head and left the room to go make dinner.
However, when she closed the door, she turned around to see a man in black with a gun trained on the three kids' heads.
"Now, lovely, I have gone to great lengths to get you." Those were the last words Cathy heard before someone hit her from behind and her body crumbled to the ground as she slipped into unconsciousness.
