Chapter 4
Stranger
I tried to ignore all eyes on me as the stranger slowly made his way towards my table. For a moment there I panicked, but then I decided it’s better to act normal. He had slightly tanned skin for someone living in such a cold place. He had short brown hair and from what I could figure out dark brown eyes. He had a strong built, and I bet a six pack under the lose sweater.
“Hey, Jenna right? How are you doing?” He said, “It’s been a long time.”
“I am sorry but……… do I know you?” I questioned. This place just keeps getting weirder by the minute. How does this hottie know my name?
A smile appeared on his face. “Ahhh... Yes, we became friends on your last visit here.” He tried to explain.
“I am sorry.” How could this be? I had a very sharp memory. I would have recognized this person if I met him 100 years ago. I felt my cheeks burning and I blushed. Come on think hard. Nothing I did bought back the memory of me meeting this hot guy. For a minute there I thought it’s my mind playing tricks on me.
“No, don’t worry. I can completely understand.” He smiled back. “I am Sam Ackels, Your parents and my parents were childhood friends.”
“Holly cwap… Sam is that really you…?” My brother shouted from behind us, which nearly made me knock my ice cream down to the floor.
“Hey Jack…” He turned around and gave Jack a man hug.
Was I going insane? There is definitely something wrong with my memory. I was thinking so hard that I did not notice both my brother and Sam starring down at me.
“Ah Jenna, are you feeling alright?” My brother now looked concerned and I opened my eyes. “Here have some water.”
I really didn’t want to embarrass myself anymore, so I just went along with them. I had to plaster a fake smile, while my brother and Sam were now laughing their heads off on some old joke that took place years ago. I did have some friends during my visit to Millville. I do remember a girl named Sara and her twin brother. We had this funny name for him because he was all nerdy and had a big belly. What was that name again….. Ah yes, Samistine. I chuckled a little.
Suddenly out of nowhere someone grabbed me from behind and I freaked out.
“OMG, OMG …...” She shrieked, “It’s been so long JenBen……. How are you?”
I turned around, and there she was standing their jumping and shrieking her head off. “Think of the devil…”
She was hugging me and I hugged her back. “Where have you been girlfriend?” we were both now jumping around in circles.
“OMG..!! Sara….” I tried to gasp some air down my lungs. “You have not changed a bit.” She was as pretty as I could remember but only taller. She had olive colored skin and big brown eyes. She had short brown hair which was all messy.
“How come I didn’t get a welcome like this?” Sam interrupted mockingly.
“Shut up Samistine…!” Sara shouted out, punching Sam on the shoulder.
Oh my god…. No wonder I could not recognize him. He looked completely different. I still thought to myself its better not to reveal this fact to anyone. Though I doubt Sam was fooled by it.
Sara and my brother were now in a very deep conversation. Jack offered to buy Sara an ice-cream, which left me and Sam, standing there in the corner. I was so embarrassed; I really wanted to go hide my face.
“How are you doing?” I managed to say as the silence between us was getting very awkward. I was so nervous, I couldn’t even stand straight. All he did was stand there and stare at me. Changing the topic was obviously not working so I figured I should apologize.
“Look Sam, I am sorry!” I said looking down on the floor. “I really did not recognize you, I mean look at yourself. You look so different...”
To no surprise he stood there and smile. “Don’t worry I can’t blame you. It’s not your fault.” He said. “You better finish your ice-cream before it melts.”
“Oh yah … I completely forgot about that...” I giggled. What the hell was going on? I was giggling and blushing. This is not normal Jenna behavior. Luckily for me we were once more joined in by Jack and Sara. Jack had to pull up a chair for himself as Sara sat down next to me.
“So Jack tells me you guys are moving in for real this time...” Sara said with a mouth full of Chocó ice cream. “That’s great news.” She added quickly swallowing the whole bite. Typical Sara I thought to myself, while she jumped up and down due to a brain freeze.
“That’s true…” Jack replied smiling down on her.
“So are you guys going to be there in school tomorrow?” Sam asked.
“Yup…” Jack replied with a mouth full of ice cream. It seemed Sara and Jack had started freak show contest titled - Lets see who can take bigger bites without brain freezing to death…….. !!
Hours and hours we talked about how much our life has changed. The whole time I noticed Sam starring at me from the corner of his eyes. This made me a little nervous and blush.
We didn’t realize how long we sat there talking and eating ice creams. I was defiantly getting tired therefore we decided it’s best to let the night rest. I was feeling good about this town and there were defiantly something on Sam’s mind.
After dinner I lay down in my bed thinking about how much Sam has changed. I couldn’t seem to get him off my mind. It wasn’t long before sleep started taking over me. I still had some changes to make to my bed room before I could move into it. I closed my eyes and it didn’t take much of an effort as I fell asleep.
