Present - The library
Chapter 11
Attacked
It had been hours we sat there in the corner of the library. Sam was still asleep when I put down the old journal beside me. I had no idea why Sam was making me read all these journals. Maybe he thought that their love story was something to remember or maybe moral based. Thoughts after thoughts came into my mind; I was completely unaware of the time. My phone began to vibrate and as I picked it up I saw 3 messages and 5 missed calls.
I answered the phone just a little too late. I searched my call log and to my surprise it was Sara. She must be worried since I didn’t tell her where I was. I read her messages and they all read … “Where are you both …? I am worried sick…”
I thought to myself that it’s not fair to keep her waiting any longer. I texted her back “We are both fine and at the library… could you come over and bring Sam’s gym bag with you…”
I didn’t want to call her and disturb Sam, who was snoozing on my lap. I closed my eyes and back up against the wall. Our four fathers sure did have a messed up love life. I felt something pass by and I quickly opened my eyes to sneak. To my surprise we were both alone in the library. I closed my eyes and went back to the journal I just read. The place where Janet confessed her love to Draco was the wonderland Sam took me to.
I could see the poles where the horse stood. The lake so beautiful and frozen and the bench were Sam and I sat for hours. I opened my eyes and looked down at Sam, he was in deep slumber and he looked tired. I wonder if he ate anything since morning. While I went through all these thoughts in my mind I felt my phone vibrate against my thighs. It was a message from unknown number “Stay away…”
This has to be a joke. Why would anyone send a message this awkward? I thought to ignore it as I saw Sara walking towards me with a bag in her hand.
“I was super worried about you guys.” Sara came rushing towards as though she was seeing us for the first time in many years.
“Shashhh…” I said as she got louder. Sara looked down on my laps and saw Sam sleeping peacefully.
“I have never seen Sam slumber so peacefully.” Sara looked confused.
“What are you talking about?”
“Did I mention Sam has been acting weird ever since his girlfriend committed suicide…?”
“Yes, this would be the second time in 24 hours.”
We both smiled.
“Thank you for bringing this to me Sara. I need you to cover up for me. I want to stay here with Sam for some time. He has got a lot on his mind and I just want to help him get it all off.”
“You don’t have to tell me twice. I’ll call up your parents and tell them you’re staying over. If you need anything else just text me and I will be there.”
“Thanks a ton”
She gave me a soft peck on the cheek and walked off. I looked down at Sam and smirked as Sam grabbed my hand and held it close to his face.
“I am sorry for freaking you out this way.” Sam whispered against my hand.
“Sam, I need you to tell me what is going on? But before that, why don’t you freshen up? Here is your gym bag… hope it has everything you would want.”
Sam got up obediently and walked off to the library restroom to freshen up. I looked around and stretched my legs, they were a little numb. I took the books and journal and put it back up on the shelves. Something fell on the floor and I turned around to look under the table it was something shining.
