I grab my backpack and speed home, but first I need to dispose of the evidence. If I put it in a bin, it will surely be found, and then I'll be screwed.
I run back home, and shove the bag in my old cubby house. The one Annie and I used to play in all the time.
Used to, but never again.
Before anyone else realises that I'm gone, I slip back inside to my room.
"Hey Emily, can you call Annie down for some dinner?"
"I thought she was out here with you?" I pretend to be confused,
"No, I haven't seen her since we got home..." Mum replies,
"Oh, well I'll check my room again just to make sure she's not hiding." I pretend to be concerned, but I know that Annie won't be turning up for dinner.
I walk to my room and sit on my bed for a minute, then grab out my shattered phone and check the time.
It's 10pm, she's been dead for over an hour now.
"Sorry mum, but I can't find her."
A concerned look settles on her face, and she turns around to face me.
"She's got to be here somewhere. Get your father to check outside, we'll triple check inside."
I nod my head, knowing very well they won't find her anywhere on our property.

After turning the house upside down, it's clear she's nowhere to be found.
Mum calls some of the neighbours, alerting them of her disappearance.
"What do we do now?" I ask,
"We wait until morning, and if she doesn't turn up, we'll contact the police.
"Okay.."
"Just pop off to bed, we'll find her." She plants a kiss on my forehead,

As I lay in bed that night, the memory of me killing her is fresh in my mind. I feel the adrenaline surge through my veins, as I remember the satisfaction of  plunging the knife into her.
What a feeling.
What a time to be alive.
Well, for me anyway....
I close my eyes and drift off to sleep, happy that I no longer have to put up with the annoying and sassy ex best friend.

Sirens wail in the distance, and I spring out of my bed. Mum and dad are seated at the kitchen table, both looked good solemn.
"What's wrong?"  I ask,
"You might want to sit down sweety." My dad points to a chair next to him,
I take a seat.
"Early this morning a jogger found Annie." My mum starts to tell me, "Now this next part may come as a shock to you."
Let me guess, she's dead?
"She was killed late last night."
Oh my gosh, no freaking way!
I fake a distraught look, "No..." I mutter,
Mum and dad both stand up and put a hand on my shoulder, "We know this is hard, but we are here for you, and we will find who did it."
They'll never know who did it, not if I have my way.
Right on cue I start crying, "She was my best friend! WHY?!"
After half an hour of me crying to my parents, I head back to my room, assuring my parents that I will be okay.
I grab out my phone and call Emma,
"Hello, Emma speaking."
"Hey Emma, it's Em."
"Oh my gosh Emily! It's so good to hear from you, did you hear what happened to Annie?" She asks,
"I did, and it's not fair." I cry into the phone,
"I wasn't as good friends with her as you were, but if it helps I can pick you up and get some ice cream?" She suggests,
I sniffle a little, "Yeah, thanks."
"Okay, I'll be there in about 10 minutes. We'll get through this." She assures me, but I'm fairly sure she knows what really happened.
****
"I did it."
"How did you get away with it?" She whispers,
"I haven't yet, but I'll need your help if I will."
"Yeah sure, whaddya need?"
"I need a solid alibi, last night from eight-thirty to nine -thirty we were face timing."
"Yep, got it. Anything else?"
"I was her best friend, and loved her to the end of the earth."
"Yeah, you certainly were." She winks at me,
I take another lick of my icecream, "Good. Now, you up for some shopping?"

Four hours and seven shopping bags bags later, Emma and I leave the DFO.
"The cure for everything, friends, food and shopping." She laughs,
"Yep, not that I need any more clothes though." I reply,
"Nah, you can never have too many clothes. Just like you can never have enough saxophones."
I roll my eyes at this, Emma plays the tenor saxophone, and has three of them. Her newest one is still coming.
"I still don't get why you need to many saxophones."
We share a smile, "And I still don't get why you need so many pairs of running shoes."
"Hey!" I defend, "That's different."
We smile at each other, "Sure..."

As I step in the front door of my house, my parents are sitting at the table next to two police officers.
"Here she is." My father introduces me,
"Emily this is Sandra and Jake, they just want to have a quick chat with you."
"Okay..." I trail off, I can't let them think I'm guilty.
"What was your relationship with Annie Hayes?" Sandra asks,
"Annie was my best friend, she was like a sister." I explain,
""Did you know she had left the house that night?"
"I had no idea, I was on the phone to my other friend, Annie had left my room to do something."
"Who were you talking to?"
"Emma, Emma goes to my school aswell."
"What's her last name?"
"Greene."
"Was she good friends with Annie?"
"They were friends, but not as close as I was with her." I explain, hoping I've seemed innocent enough,
"Okay, thankyou Emily." They both smile at me, and then tell me I can leave.
I leave the officers at the table, they call my parents back in.
I walk into my room, but I remain quiet enough to hear their conversation.
"She seems to be taking it pretty well, but I would suggest seeing a councillor or therapist for a little while. As she seems to be showing no signs of a depression or anything, everyone handles grief differently, and she could be hiding it."
"Yes, we were thinking the same thing. The school councillor has been asked to see her once a week for a month or so, I really worry about her."

The only thing worrying about this, is that they have no idea what I am capable of.
