Alright. So the reason why this story has gone without update in a while is because there are too details I took forever to work out. One was the ending. I've been writing by the seat of my pants this whole time just taking fluid logical paths and editing around them with minimal thought to where the story was going next. I had no end goal and coming to a crescendo here I realized the finale is something I need to articulate well to nail this story and be happy with what I've created here.
The second thing was that I didn't know entirely how corruption was working and at the time I knew as little about stopping/reversing it as the characters did. I played around a bit with some rules for it, hence the interruption between chapters before the last one because I needed Logic to sound sort of off and for that to work I needed to know the answers and keep him from exposing them as he tried to figure it out with corruption coursing through his veins.
Not to mention how it changes the sides. Anxiety became Terror, Creativity became Ego, both easy jumps but what would that make the other two sides? What was I fundamentally taking from Roman and Virgil that made them, still them, but much less Thomas? Anyway. I found the common thread and now I know how the other two will warp which helps immensely.
The answer is his Humanity. Throughout all of the Sanders Sides videos, each one of the sides always genuinely wants to help Thomas and the others [except Princey cause he's a git] and it is that, which I stole with my corruption.
Virgil just wants Thomas safe (and happy)- good motive & kind. The way he goes about it isn't always the best and he certainly has his own demons to face, but you could hardly call him malicious. Roman wants Thomas to be happy, creative and popular.- Still a good motive even if he surprises me by being a clueless moron all of the time.
Terror though is a abstraction of Anxiety's mannerisms minus the self loathing and plus malicious confidence. Ego or "King" is a narcissist who has lost all of Princy's redeeming qualities. But the big focus here is that neither of them care about Thomas and the others anymore and quite possibly might never again.
Now for the unanswered questions:
How will the change in the sides affect Thomas and his ability to save, not only himself but the other sides?
How can Thomas effectively rescue the others without getting himself or Patton hurt, with only the equipment in this recording studio?
Is there any in fighting among the corrupted facets?
I'm sorry this update got super meta super quick but I think putting it all down it writing really helps and well... I type a heck of a lot faster than I can write (not to mention I lose notes like a chronic gambler loses money). Anyway...
Let me know what you think in the comments, and with that, your friendly neighborhood writer bids you a fond Goodnight, NightVale. Goodnight.
(aka, Cotyc is ramble writing at midnight again and will probably regret it once the morning comes. like the entire first chapter of DP? No, Spectre, which I don't even remember writing...)
