66~ Anah had Enough

Next day, Anah interrupted Ejaz's meeting with some clients. Ejaz requested the men to excuse them. They nodded and left deciding to come within ten minutes. Ejaz asked Anah to enter. She closed the door behind her. Ejaz dropped the used cigarette butt on the ash tray and gestured her to sit opposite him. As she didn't carry any trace papers he wondered why she has come here.

'Ms. Malik I saw your designs. I have made few changes and sent it to-'

'Congrats, Ejaz.' Anah interrupted him. Ejaz paused when he heard her call him by his first name. He looked up at her, she stepped in front and Ejaz noticed her clenched fist. She slammed her palm on the table and Ejaz saw the glistening locket he had gifted her. He is shocked she has removed it.

'I will not be needing this anymore, Ejaz. Clearly, you have moved on then why not me. I am done sulking and I am done with you.'

Her words angered Ejaz, he stood up angrily and glared at her.

'Moved on? You moved on before me, Anah. All this mess is because you couldn't control your hormones and slept with someone you called your best friend.' He said angrily.

Anah felt her blood boil, how dare he?

Before she knew it, she had slapped him. Thankfully, the door was closed and the window covered with blinds. Ejaz clenched his fists, he was about to react but then realized she is pregnant and he controlled his hands.

'How dare you speak such dirty things about my friend? I and Reyhan share the purest of bond and dare you to stain it.' Anah fumed at Ejaz pointing her index finger at him. Staring into her blazing eyes, for the first time, Ejaz felt slightly scared.

After a second Anah composed herself, - 'Everyone is not the same. I have said you this before and I am telling you this for the nth time. I- have-not-cheated on you. When we were in a relationship I had not even thought of any other man forget to let any other man touch me. But you don't trust me. Now, I am ashamed at myself for falling in love with a man who doesn't even trust me nor is willing to commit to marriage.' She inhaled deeply taking in her tears. Ejaz's expression softened as well.

Ejaz felt himself melt but then he recollected last night when he had seen Reyhan take Anah away and he hardened his heart.

'Get out, Ms. Malik.' He said sternly. He turned around.

Anah nodded and turned away. Ejaz fell on his chair as she slammed the door shut behind her.

With the locket gone Anah felt a heavy weight lift off her. She felt lighter. She smiled widely and enthusiastically greeted many of her colleagues on her way to her cabin. Many watched her suspiciously while others were happy to see her smile. Anah is indeed happy and glad, she meant every word she had said to Ejaz – she is done sulking and done with Ejaz, now that Chapter is closed for her, forever.

Next two weeks comparatively went well for Anah. She challenged all negativity with a smile. People had begun moving to the next gossip and the harassment reduced. Ipshita and Anah began to get very excited for the baby. They kept measuring Anah's waist and keeping a record. Reyhan was happy seeing Anah slowly return to normal. And so, he dropped the idea of marriage. Instead, now he plans to confess his love for her.

Ejaz was doing relatively terrible. As days passed watching Anah smile and be herself slowly made his suspicious strong. He didn't matter to her anymore? Or did he ever matter to her? Slowly he kept slipping into depression and turning into a brooding man. Nevertheless, he kept his professional life at bay from his personal turmoil. He began channeling the negativity to his work and turned into a workaholic.

'Ma-' Anah couldn't complete her sentence, her mother had slapped her. Anah is stunned. Anah had instant tears but she doesn't respond and simply stood there holding her cheek .

'We can't even look at anyone in the eye. Thankfully no one knows yet about your- But the shame engulfed us so much that we couldn't even sleep at night. You destroyed our sleep.' Mrs. Malik screamed angrily.

'Had you said the same if I was married?' Anah managed to say in a small voice.
