The First Six Months

"Okay, so let me start with a little backstory first. After my mom died, my dad and I moved from our home in California to Oklahoma about six months ago. My dad's job had just transferred him about three weeks before her death so the house was already packed up. We left right her funeral. No goodbyes to family or anything. We just hopped on a plane and left everything we knew for a new life.

During month one, my dad kinda checked out for a little. He was still there but it was like he was on autopilot. He woke up, went to work, came home, ate dinner, and then went to sleep. Sometimes he'd stay at home and just lock himself in his room.

While he mourned in his own way, I mourned in the kitchen. My mom loved to cook. She always said that one day she and I would own a little restaurant called The Greek Palace. By the time I was five years old, I could probably challenge Bobby Flay to a cook-off and win. So I honored her by cooking all of her favorite meals every day the first month. Dad wouldn't eat them though, it hurt too much.

The second month was probably worse than the first for dad. He started going out at night and coming home early in the morning, alcohol still fresh on his breath. Let's get one thing clear, my dad never drank. Ever. Only on holidays and New Year's Eve and even then, it was a sip or two of champagne. But this wasn't like "Congrats to the bride and groom!" these were like "I just turned 21 and I'm bout ready to turn tf up!" sips.

My publicist is saying I'm talking too much about this so I'm gonna speed along a little okay?

Okay, so he drank a lot and nearly lost his job because he'd stay home hungover. I had to take care of him before going to school and after. Month three wasn't as bad though, he started to lay off the liquor a bit, still a glass or two but not as bad as the month before. I made a new friend, his name is Peleus Tey. I sit with him and his girlfriend Thetis Washington and her friend Selene Romano. They're all pretty cool, I never really had friends in California so it's nice. We're all best friends now obviously.

Anyway, the last three months were basically the same as the third one."

"What about that lady?"

"The lady?"

"The one with your dad right now."

"Oh. That. Can you cut off the cameras?"

Amy looked at the cameramen and made a "cut" gesture and the red light on the camera went out. "That's his new woman, Nemesis." I said, looking back at my dad and that wench making sure they didn't hear us, " Apparently she "helped him with his drinking problem before it got out of hand" even though that was all me. She just came in the picture when he was ready to get his act together. I don't like her much. She's just using him."

"Using him? For money? Do you know that for sure?" Amy leaned forward excitedly. See this is why I don't do interviews, thirsty for information. Give them one piece of candy, they ask for the whole damn pack. "No, I'm not saying she's using him for money. I just don't trust her." She frowned. "Oh. Well, that's boring. You don't really have a reason to not like her. She doesn't seem that bad."

"I know she doesn't seem bad," I said while standing up from my chair. "There's just something off about her. I don't know what yet though." Amy got up too, walking towards me. "How about this. We can steer clear of the family topic and we can talk about how your powers first came along. Where you were at, who were you with, stuff like that."

"Who were you with"

As soon as I heard those words, I shuddered at the memory of that day. "Well, you see haha it's actually a funny story. I uh I don't really like talking about that day much." Amy stayed standing there looking at me confused "Why don't you? Was it painful when your powers started or something?"

"Not painful for me at least..." I muttered under my breath. "Huh?" "Nothing!" I rushed out and smiled "Actually...sigh... Igotarrested."

"I'm sorry, what did you just say?"

"I gotarrested."

"You have to rest in bed?"

"I GOT ARRESTED."

"Oh wow. WOW. Why?" I walked over her, regretting every step, and whispered to her what I did. I really hope this doesn't end up all over the internet.

"YOU THREW HIM OUT THE WINDOW?!"
