Lauren's POV

A week ago today, I was told I only had a year left to live.

As a seventeen year old, who had so much I wanted to do and achieve in life, I don't know what to do with myself. I hadn't left my hospital bed and I hadn't left this room.

My Mum had been and gone, I hadn't said much to her. My sister, Veronica who was 14 had been in and out to keep me company. She told me about her school day and I helped her with her homework.

I was just waiting to die.

My Mum walked in.

"How you feeling?" She asked.

"Same as yesterday." I replied.

"You've been sat here for a week, you stink, your hair needs brushing and go outside."

"For what?"

"Lauren, you may be dying, but you might as well make the most of your last days."

I rolled my eyes.

"Come on, Lauren, think about it."

She put a piece of paper on my bedside table and left the room.

Things you need to do before you die...

1. Go to Lucy's Party.

2. Learn how to cook roast dinner with Grandma.

3. Go skydiving

4. Go cliff jumping and surfing

5. Watch films all day.

6. Go to a concert

7. Explore Beverly Woods.

8. Swim with Sharks.

9. Go for a whole night without sleep.

10. Sleep under the stars.

I rolled my eyes at some. Some I groaned and really didn't want to do. Most of them didn't sound hard but they faced my biggest fears and things I had avoided doing my whole life. Like number five. I never watched films in one go, I got to restless and I hated it.

I threw it onto the open suitcase next to my bed and decided not to think about it.

"Lauren Henderson?" A nurse said.

"Yes?"

"Your moving to room 48 because we need room for patients who are in worse care than you."

I was dying. I didn't say anything but I quickly threw all of my stuff into my suitcase and followed her to room 48.

"This is your roommate, Ethan Dolan. There is a curtain you can pull in-between you if you don't want to talk to each other, but Lauren I think you need to socialise a bit. It's not healthy for you to be alone all day, your both seventeen so you should get on."

I rolled my eyes.

Ethan was tall, amazingly looking and had an amazing taste in food from what I could see on his bedside table. He was well built with an amazing jawline and a cute smile.

"Hey." He said.

"Hey." I said.

I threw my suitcase onto my bed and opened my bedside table draw completely ignoring him.

I threw my food into the top draw.

"Touch my food, I'll kill you." I said giving him a sarcastic smile.

He laughed and went back onto his phone.

I put my clothes into the second draw without bothering to fold them.

"Want to play twenty questions?" Ethan asked.

"Yeah, whatever."

I lay on my bed and went on my phone.

"Okay Full name." Ethan asked.

"Lauren Lily Henderson, you?"

"Ethan Grant Dolan."

"Siblings?" Ethan asked.

"I have a fourteen year old sister, Veronica."

"I have a twin brother called Grayson and a sister who's two years older called Cameron." Ethan said.

"What sports do you play?" Ethan asked.

"I did gymnastics. I was going to go to the Olympics but then I got cancer so..."

"That sucks, I'm sorry," Ethan said, then changed the subject, thankfully. "I did football, wrestling and lacrosse."

We continued the game. I learnt that Ethan liked pizza, surfing and cliff jumping.

I also learnt that he made YouTube videos with Grayson, who I met the next day. He was really sweet and funny.

"Lauren, me and Grayson are going out to get pizza in an hour, want to come?" Ethan asked looking up from his bed.

I thought about it.

"Pleasseeeeeeee," Ethan begged.

I couldn't resist his face,

I laughed, "Fine."

I grabbed some clothes and went to the bathroom.

I took my first shower in a week and I felt so clean when I got out.

I brushed my hair out and got dressed. I wore a black shirt and black, ripped, skinny jeans. I pulled a black, denim jacket over the top.

I walked out Ethan was wearing a matching black denim jacket and laughed when he saw we were matching.

"Come on then." He said, grinning.

His smile made me weak at the knees.

He linked arms with me and we walked out of the room together.

My Mum was there.

I cursed.

"Lauren? Your going out? Oh my god, let me get a picture." My nurse friend, Alissa said laughing.

I rolled my eyes and flipped her off. She laughed and hugged me.

"Have fun, Ethan look after her."

Me and Ethan left.

"What was that about?" Ethan said laughing.

"I haven't left the hospital in 3 weeks." I said truthfully.

"What? Why? That hospital drives me insane, all the beeping and babies crying. Don't get me wrong I love kids but when I get woken up five times a night it gets a bit annoying. I want to be back in my own bed, with my batman onsie and I miss Grayson's cute little snores."

We walked in silence for a while.

"Why are you in hospital, Ethan?" I asked.

"I've got cancer." He replied simply. "Why are you?"

"I've got it as well."

We walked in silence.

"Well. We can get through this together."

I wanted to tell him that I wasn't going to make it. But I didn't. And I don't know why I didn't.

Maybe some part of me is still wishing that I would make it.
