Blue light shines in the midnight glow of the forest. I haven't seen Anita in months, but something tells me to go to the river tonight. Directly in front of me, a voice interrupts the silence.
"My name is Airam-- My name is-- My- My-"
The voice cuts out with a high pitched screech and I wince. Something's going on out here.
"Curse this machine!" A growl echoes through the cool night air. My ears perk up at the familiar timbre, but it makes no sense. I don't know why he's out here in the middle of the night, or what he plans to do.
"My name is Airam," the robotic female voice is back, "My duty is to protect and serve. Three months ago I gave my life fighting for a better world. I will see that world come to exist and I will make sure it does not become like its predecessor."
I step into view, my breath catching at the sight before me. A blue holograph smiles at me, tucking her hair behind her red bandana. She scuffs the toe of her combat boot in the dirt, a gesture that I recognize immediately. My heart plummets, and I stare open-mouthed as she utters her final words.
"I died a martyr but from here on I will be a voice of the revolution! And this time, I won't give up my chance to live. This time, I'll get it right."
My breath catches in my throat. I cough, trying to breathe, and the inventor turns to inspect me. He raises his eyes to meet mine, pausing a moment too long on my lingering scars.
"So, Lucky," M's lopsided grin greets me, "What do you think?"
Hey guys!! It's finally time for the sequel!! There's been a few changes you should all be aware of. First, Anita's name has been changed to Antigone (pronounced Ann-tih-guh-nee) (I'm a honors sophomore help). Thomas's name is now Fahrien (Far-ee-en). I realized that I'm writing a novel in the future, so they should probably have futuristic names (even though Antigone is a 3000 year old name. . .)
