I walked into Ms. Donna's room and as usual, kids snickered at me and threw spit balls at me, but as usual, I ignored it. I walked over to my desk which was against the wall and close to the back. I placed my elbow against the table and my hand against my cheek as I listened to Ms. Donna's boring teaching. Her last name was actually Anderson, but she preferred Ms. Donna.

Cameron's POV:

I looked over at the girl that I bumped into in the halls earlier. She was across from Moses and me. She looked so miserable.

"Hey, Mo," I said, nudging him.

"Yeah, man?" he said, looking over at me. He had an African accent. He would always wear hoodies and caps. We've been best friends since fifth grade, but we never have been to school together because I've always been homeschooled.

"Who's that girl over there?" I pointed to the poor girl.

He frowned over at her. "Oh, that's Rita," he said flatly. "I wouldn't go near her. She's kinda conceited."

"Really? She seemed nice when I bumped into her the hallways."

"Huh."

"Let's go sit with her." I grabbed his arm.

"Ah, I don't wanna," he whined.

"Come on."

"Um, Mr. Cameron and Mr. Moses?" Ms. Donna said. "What are you doing?"

"Oh, we were going to sit over there," I told her, pointing to Rita's table. Some kids were looking at us like crazy. They were probably thinking, "Why would you wanna sit with her? She doesn't talk to anybody."

Ms. Donna's stern frown turned into a smile. "Oh, then go right ahead."

Still grabbing Moses' arm, I walked over to Rita, who was also giving me a confused look.

"Um, hi," I greeted her. "Mind if we sit here?"

She stared at us for a minute, then shook her head "no".

I pulled out a chair next to her and sat down and so did Moses.

"Rita, right?" I asked her.

She nodded. "And your name's Cameron. Right?"

"Right. So, um, why are you sitting here by yourself?"

"Because I want to," she said bitterly.

"What's the matter?" I rested a hand on her shoulder.

"Nothing."

"Come on, something's gotta be bothering you. Is it because those kids were picking on you?"

"It's not just that."

"Then, what is it?"

"Just please leave me alone."

My heart broke for her. I just wish I could do something to help her.

"Alright, class!" Ms. Donna said. "You are going to do a Powerpoint about Albert Einstein and you are going to be paired with partners."

Everybody groaned.

Moses leaned over to me and whispered, "I hope that we get to choose our own partners."

"And I'm going to choose who you're going to be paired with."

Everybody groaned again, this time louder.

"Okay, Lena, you'll be paired with Clay. Lorenzo, you will be paired with Cosmo, Moses, you will be paired with Alisha..."

Moses groaned.

"Who's Alisha?" I whispered to him.

"She's this annoying girl that has a humongous crush on me," he told me. "See, this is why I don't like being paired up with partners."

"...and Cameron," Ms. Donna continued, "you will be paired up with Rita."
