"You don't smell that?" I turned to Kira."No. I don't smell anything."
I looked back down at the copy machine, waiting for my print to come out. This morning we all talked about how we had to each get a copy of Malias book, the Dread Doctors. I don't know what I expected to get out of this book, but I hoped it would help. Maybe even with the missing bodies.
As the printer had just finished its last copy Scott walked in. He asked me to come with him to give Theo his copy, just to convince him.
"Sorry but I've never heard of a kanima until two days ago...Do you really want me to read this?" said Theo, flipping through the pages.
"Yeah I'm still on chapter 1." said Scott
"And I haven't even started." I said
Theo looked at us," You guys do this a lot ,huh?", he said looking a little overwhelmed.
"Do what?" I said
" Get involved."
I looked at Scott, not even knowing the answer myself.
"Yeah, I guess so."
"What about the author," he said flipping to the front," shouldn't you guys be talking to him?"
Scott looked down," We tried to search him up but it was just a dead end."
"How about this guy?" He said as he flipped to the back of the book.
I read it out loud," This book is dedicated to Dr. Authur Gabriel Valec."
I noticed a sudden drop in Scott's heartbeat. Theo must have noticed it too.
"Do you know him?"
"Yeah, and I know where to find him."
I decided to stay back from going to Eichen. The way Malia described the place to me freaked me out. Instead she asked to meet me in the library after school so I could help her with her homework.
We ended up staying really late. Stiles had dropped us off after they discussed how to they were going to talk to the doctor. We were talking about the chimeras when Theo decided to join us.
"You guys aren't the only ones that have to flip pages." he smiled.
I tried my best to ignore him when Malia suddenly got up. I assumed she was going to leave and I didn't want to be alone with Theo so I started packing up too.
"Do you guys need a ride? I noticed your jeep wasn't in the parking lot." Theo said
"It's fine we will just take the bus." Malia said
"The last bus left an hour ago."
"Then we will walk." I said standing up.
He turned to Malia," Haven't I seen you come out of drivers ed?"
"I hope not." She said
"You destroyed some cones and hit the curb," then he looked at me," and you almost took out a sophomore."
"He shouldn't have been standing there." I said
He gave an amused smile.
"Malia why don't you drive, you could practice." He said throwing the keys to her.
The car ride was mostly silent, me in the backseat and Malia and Theo up front.
"You can speed up Malia." He said
"I'm going the speed limit." she said
"You can go a little faster."
The truck started going a little faster, and a little more , and a little more.
"Malia you don't have to go that fast." I said, giving her a concerned look.
"Malia slow down." said Theo as he attempted to grab the wheel from her.
We jerked to the side and me and Theo hit our heads on the window, but Malia kept on going . Suddenly she stopped and ran out to the other side of the road. She crouched down on her hands and knees and seemed to be looking for something. I noticed headlights coming towards her.
Theo was closer to her so he grabbed her and pulled her out of the way. They were on top of eachother on our side of the road now. Malia sat up straight,
"It was her , it was the desert wolf."
I gave her a confused look and me and Theo eventually got her in the backseat while I sat up front with Theo.
" Do you have any idea on what shes talking about?" He asked.
I shrugged, looking out the window,"Im not sure, but I think I have an idea."
