"so you're gay?" he said. abe had always been troye's friend but he was really homophobic.
"no i'm transgender and pansexual."
"what's that supposed to mean? do you masturbate with pans or something?"
"no. it basically means that i'm attracted to every gender."
"so you're bi?"
"no, being pan is different than being bi. pan means you're attracted to boys, girls, and people anywhere in between."
troye has been through this conversation a million times before but it was a lot different having the conversation with someone who'd been his friend since kindergarten. troye hasn't always been the greatest of friends with abe, but he still wanted abe's support.
"that's not possible, everyone is either a boy or a girl." abe said.
"actually they're not. a lot of people don't identify as either a boy or a girl. it's pretty common."
"okay, sure," abe said sarcastically. "well i'll talk to you later samantha." abe made sure to put emphasis on troye's birthname. the name that troye had always hated. the name no one was supposed to use anymore.
troye hung up without saying anything else. he was too angry to say anything else.
abe had always been the kind of person to describe things as "gay". he was the captain of a very heterosexual football team and whenever he said anything even remotely sympathetic to another male, he added "no homo" at the end. the kind of person who only believes in two genders and thought gay was a sin and went to church every sunday but then would go to parties practically every night and get blackout drunk and hookup with a different girl every night. but it was okay for him to do it because he was a straight cisgender male who could get away with anything.
it's not like troye expected a different reaction from abe. he was hoping abe would've been a little bit nicer but no such luck.
troye's best friend, lola, had been supportive throughout the whole process. lola was bi and had the most supportive family possible. her family took troye in after he came out to his parents and got kicked out for being a "disgrace to the family". lola had been the only one there for troye when he was contemplating suicide and she was the one who suggested that he go to a therapist for his depression, anxiety, and anorexia. lola's always been there.AUTHORS NOTE (A/N): hey guys! it's been like forever since i've written anything but here's this! i have a lot of plans for this story and i hope to not procrastinate and actually get something done for once. anyways, i love all you guys so much and i hope you all have a great morning/afternoon/evening/night/day!!!
