It felt weird to wake up to a dog yapping loudly, Kyan had been in a whole lot of pain, tossing and turning ever since six this morning. He'd heard Zyah playing with the dog, laughing and at moments screaming in delight. It frustrated him because he only wanted a few more hours of sleep before his hunger had woken him.
Bringing him out of his reverie, Zyah barged into his room. "Kyan, we need to get this little guy some food. I can't make breakfast knowing that he hasn't even eaten." Kyan was used to Zyah's early morning spirit but not to the extent where she came yelling into his room. He groaned in frustration. "We're not keeping the dog Zyah. We're going to make sure he's healthy enough before finding it's owners."
Zyah hopped onto the bed, emitting laughter as her petite frame caused a bounce from the well-built, much larger frame of her bestfriend. "And if we don't find them? We can't let him roam around on the streets again." She stuck out her bottom lip into a sulking expression, knowing that he hadn't any resistance in that regard. "Fine, cook breakfast, I'll go to the store and get some dog food."
He threw his duvet off of his body. He was such a sucker for the cold weather and hatred for it spread through his veins like wildfire. Zyah watched as his bare shoulders shook off a shiver. Zyah didn't want it to seem like she was checking him out, even though it was clear as day. She rolled off of the bed and opened the curtains. "You know Pilot, you're going to look like a teddy bear soon, you're gaining so much weight." He laughed as he walked passed her into his bathroom. "It's called bulking Zyah. Soccer season is starting soon, so I can't build muscle on nothing. Not saying that I haven't got anything. Your eyes tell me that I do." He suggested with a wiggle of his eyebrows.
Zyah quietly walked out of the room, back to where she'd left the dog and brought him with her into the kitchen. While preparing breakfast, Zyah gave into her thoughts. She didn't like her sudden awareness of her bestfriend and would do anything to avoid it, even if it meant leaving Kyan to talk to himself. "That wasn't very nice of you to do Zy." Kyan said as his tall frame walked into the kitchen. She stifled a laugh as she picked up on his irritation.
Noticing that she wasn't about to respond he asked "What's for breakfast?" "chocolate chip pancakes and strawberries?" She tried her utmost to act nonchalant about how he'd noticed that she was ogling his body. It was a fail far beyond rectification as he brought it up after noticing her wavering tone of voice. "Hey, I was only pulling your leg earlier, we do that all the time."
Yes, they did but there was something different, there was a sudden eye opener that Zyah had to ignore. There was no way she and Kyan could be the clichè "bestfriends falling in love." She couldn't do that to Kyan, they needed each other and if she were to fall for him, who was to say their friendship would come crashing down? Like he'd said the night before, he was all she had out here and it was difficult for her to be herself without him around.
She'd been shook from her thoughts literally as his hands gripped her shoulders, shaking her. "Earth to Zyah!" She shook her head clearing her thoughts. "I'm taking the dog with. Maybe somebody would recognize him." Zyah only nodded. "And then we'll talk about what happened last night when I get back."
When he didn't get the desired response, he picked the dog up and left the house. Zyah had been left to her own devices and let out a scream of despair. It was like becoming aware of her sexuality all over again. Zyah had attempted to block out her thoughts of being attracted to Kyan by finishing up the pancakes, eating her share and covering Kyans share with another plate and putting it into the microwave to keep it warm.
After tidying the kitchen, cleaning the used utensils, bowl and pan. Zyah had cleaned her room and fell asleep just minutes before Kyan had returned.
As usual, just like she'd done hours before Kyan walked into her room and started talking. "I'm back Zyah. I met a veterinarian, she suggested I bring the dog in tomorrow, get him checked out and maybe we can register and adopt him." Zyah being woken from her nap was frustrated. "I was asleep Kyan. Could you not have waited until I was awake?" Kyan chuckled. "No Zyah, you didn't wait this morning, besides we're supposed to have a talk."
He sat on her bed with his foot curled beneath him. Zyah then sat upright. "Where's the dog?" She asked, noticing that he didn't have the puppy with him.
"Well, Willa suggested that she keep him until tomorrow, make sure he's healthy enough." Zyah threw a pillow at him. "Why are you such an idiot? Kyan, she could have put him up for adoption already? We won't be able to get him back because adopting a puppy means you're legally entitled to it and for us to get him back would mean that we'd have to steal him and theft is punishable with jail time. You didn't think this through Kyan."
He let out a breath of relief after her rant. She was never like this, there was something bothering her and knowing Zyah, it would be a complete waste asking. "I was only joking. We do have to register him though, but he's downstairs. I got him food like you asked me to." Kyan shrugged.
It was quiet for a moment, Kyan couldn't help but watch Zyah in awe. She was absolutely breathtaking, even when there was no reason. He loved her, obviously a bestfriend should love their bestfriend equally, but his heart tipped the Libra scale and he held her up on a pedestal.
"I'm sorry I never listened to you last night and I ruined your only friendship with that stupid fight. How are your bruises?" She asked, scanning his face." Kyan smiled at her fretting. "I'm alright Captain, don't worry about me. I'm here to serve and protect." He said nonchalantly as he pulled her into a hug.
Zyah figured it all out. She was feeling angry and betrayed. "You're doing this because Vernon threatened you. You're acting like a big brother because he told you that if anything happens, he's going to blame you?"
Kyan took a deep breath before speaking. "Zyah, last night? I did that because I was guilty for dragging you to that damn party and if anything were to happen to you, I would feel like it were my fault whether Vernon blamed me or not." He watched her eyes well up. He hated when she cried.
He pulled her into another hug despite her protests. "I'm responsible for you Zyah, we're-" Zyah interrupted. "Stop, stop it Cubro, you're not responsible for me. I am not a child and I expected you to understand that. I can look after myself! You and Vernon need to stop fucking babying me."
After a couple of failed attempts at getting a word in, Kyan finally gave into Zyah and left her room.
