Zyah had passed out within ten minutes of the drive and Kyan hadn't minded at all, not only for his benefit, but because she needed all the rest she could get before breaking down all over again once she sees her brother. Kyan  knew that it was coming, he just hoped Vernon was even a little bit stronger than his sister at this point .   Vernon Zucchini needed to be the intimidating guy that Kyan knew. His broad shoulders and tall frame always had Kyan shying away, especially from persuing a relationship with the guy's younger sister.

While their parents Mr and Mrs Zucchini always encouraged Kyan to date Zyah, it would be their son who would subliminally threaten Kyans existence. He remembers their prom night. Mr Zucchini encouraged him to compliment Zyah and while Vernon had stood between them to pose for a picture he whispered in Kyans ear that if he ever touched Zyah, he'd die a slow death. Okay so maybe it wasn't as subliminal, but at least he hadn't faced the Zucchini wrath just yet. Zyah wasn't making it any easier.

Zyah woke up within the last two hours of the drive. Kyan had stopped to get something to eat. "Hey Zy."Kenlan greeted as soon as she sat up straight. "Hey Captain, we have things to talk about before we get home."Zyah groggily spoke. Kyan nodded and got out of the car. "Okay, what is this that we're speaking about?"Kyan asked as he fell into step with the only girl he'd ever hoped to fall in love with. Zyah looked at him from the corner of her eye. "You know exactly what I'm talking about Pilot, I'm not interested in your mind games today." "I think that I may like the drunk Zyah a lot better." If Zyah was any bit annoyed, the only thing to show it was her normal eye roll during their banter. "Okay okay, is there anything you want to say about it?"

Zyah was suddenly at a loss for words, the fact that she'd been intimate with her best friend in a state of mind which she had no control over frustrated her to no end, not only because she was too drunk to stop herself but also because she might have enjoyed it. "It's a bit complicated, I know but is it not safe to say that we both enjoyed it?" Zyah frowned at her bestfriend." Without thought the words came rambling out of her mouth. "Are you crazy? We're not supposed to be doing this Kyan. We're best friends, I can't see us going any further." The last part was a lie, she had dreams about him in her sleep for the last two hours. "We can't risk our friendship all because we had one night of fun, I wont."

Kyan tried to think of an excuse for this rant. It had to be her emotions, maybe making a move last night wasn't the brightest of ideas. Not that he could blame himself, she practically threw herself at him. Better me than anybody else. He thought to himself. "Who said our friendship is at risk?" Zyah rolled her eyes again. He thought that it was adorable how easily annoyed she got by questions that needed to be asked. "What if we try Kyan, what if we tried and it just doesn't work out?" Now Kyan was confused. "Try what? The fuck-buddy thing?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "You're so stupid sometimes it irritates me." She groaned, Kyan struggled to keep himself from laughing. "What do you want to try?"  A relationship with you Zyah thought but dared not say it. "I want us to try and forget that what happened, ever did." When Kyans eyes grew wide in shock Zyah felt her heart break. "You don't- no you don't mean that. Zyah..."

He drifted off as she walked away in the direction of the restaurant. He knew better than to force her especially because she's dealing with a loss greater than any other. So he walked quietly behind her. "I don't want things to turn sour and super awkward between the two of us." "It won't." His words dripping in annoyance. Their waiter appearing before Zyah could say anything. "Good day, I'll be your waiter today, what can I get you?" "Kyan looked up. "Oh just two cheese burger meals with one banana and one chocolate milkshake." The waitress smiled and asked. "And for the lady?" "Wow, a waitress who doesn't only acknowledge the male counterpart. I appreciate you, but that was both our orders. Thank you." While laughing, the waitress nodded and was soon gone. Zyah sighed. "That was quite refreshing."

A tight lipped smile graced her best friends face. Did she hurt his feelings? "Look, we're best friends Kyan that is what we're supposed to be." With a dry chuckle Kyan asked. "How do you know? How do you know Zy?" "Well, there will be a day where you'll meet somebody, you'll fall in love and be the happiest guy alive. "You're so goddamn blind sometimes." Her eyes grew wide but he didn't give her a chance. "Look, Zy I don't want to get too deep into this right now. You're probably not doing okay just yet. I don't think you'll be able to see my point of view right now." Zyah was offended.  "You have no right to make that choice for me." "Zyah, relax. I'm just giving you a chance." She let out a heavy breath. "A chance Kyan, really Kyan if that is what this is, i honestly can't say that I want it."

The waitress stood at a distance not wanting to intrude. "I'm sorry. Please enjoy." Kyan nodded in gratitude, it was rude, but his anger got the better of him in the moment. "You just lost your parents Captain, got shitfaced drunk and had your emotions not interrupted we would've slept together, do you not get how this complicates things already? Now I don't want to add onto your emotional stress, but maybe i should just tell you." His voice was suddenly dripping in anger. It shook Zyah just as much as it did the night she'd knocked Zuro. He didn't bother with whether Zyah had something to say. He continued speaking. "We're best friends, you know the type of person I am Zyah." All the more reason not to pursue a relationship  Zyah thought. "I shamelessly sleep around and maybe I can't find someone worthy of settling down with, all because she's only comfortable with being my best friend."

Zyah snorted involuntarily, choking on a potato chip. "You know what I find funny too?" Kyan shrugged. "How is it that after our mistake you're prepared to confess your feelings?" Kyan wanted to, but he couldn't find a way to answer her properly.  "Drop it Zyah. You'll see in time." Huffing, Zyah resorted to finishing her meal. "Pay, I'll wait for you in the car."Kyan nodded and watched her walk out before waving their waitress over.
