Reaching home this time, Zyah was the one to help Kyan out of the car. What a struggle. Heaven knew why this guy was so heavy. "I can't even balance your weight on me. I thought we agreed you'd loose all that weight?" Zyah asked as she slowly trudged to the front door. "I'm not fat, you'll see in a couple of months. You think I'm playing with you?"
Leaving Zuro in the house had been a mistake tonight. The dog had jumped on the staggering pair, knocking them off of their feet. His slobbery tongue attacking both their faces. "No Zu, stop it. That's grosss."Kyan slurred, struggling to find his feet while he lay in Zyah's arm while she giggled uncontrollably. "I don't think this was supposed to be funny, Zyah. I'm way too drunk for this behavior." Zyah nodded, she took Zuro out of the house and came back to find Kyan on the floor with his head leaning against the seat of the couch.
Zyah giggled as she approached him. "Let's get you to bed, huh." Kyan shook his head in disapproval. "We need to talk." He spoke just above a whisper and patted the carpeted floor beside him. "That darn dog knows how to sober me up. Come on, I told you to meet me at the car when you're ready." Zyah took a deep breath. "I'm afraid Kyan. There is a lot at stake if ever I were to give in." "If you give in to what?" Kyan asked, settling into an upright position. "My feelings, Kyan we've been so close for most of our lives and I'm shit scared of the- what if we don't turn out the way we expect?"
A slight smile graced his features as he watched her. "Sorry, repeat your question." Zyah huffed in irritation. She knew that he'd heard her, but still repeated her question. "What if-" Kyan let out a loud "Ha. There it is. You're not even sure if it won't work out so why not try?" He was right, but if Zyah were to admit it, everything would be ruined. "It's just a precaution, Kyan. You and Vernon are all I have left, if we ruin this, I don't know what I'd do." Kyan ran a frustrated hand over his face. "Zyah, we've moved past the stage of friendship months ago, all you need is to admit it to yourself. You can't mock it until you try it."
He was suddenly a lot closer and the alcohol on his breath seemed awkwardly like a turn on, Zyah, despite her mentally not wanting to, felt herself physically moving closer to him. He didn't move, he watched her carefully, allowing her the opportunity to make this choice by herself. She kissed him passionately. They slowly pulled apart. "Is that a yes?"He questioned. Not being able to verbally respond. She nodded with a wide grin. All of a sudden, Kyan felt sober. Lifting the girl into his lap, holding her face between his hands, he asked. "Are you serious, Zyah?" She laughed, "Yes, I'm serious, Pilot don't make this awkward." He placed a soft kiss on her neck. "Okay" he whispered, his breath tickling her neck. "What is this, that we're trying out?" "Is that how you ask people to be your girlfriend?"She asked him wide eyed.
He laughed out of embarrassment. "If you must know, I've never asked any girl to be my girlfriend." Zyah scoffed in disbelief. Got out of Kyan's lap and sat in her previous position. "Okay, give me some time then. Just don't go and fall for that Geoff idiot." Zyah rolled her eyes. "You were right, he is quite a douche bag, you have no reason to worry about him. Not at all really."Kyan smiled. "Alright fine, don't go falling for anybody else then." Zyah saluted him and got to her feet. The sun had to have been rising. "I heard you, Pilot. I'm going to sleep, thank God it's the weekend. See you in the morning."
A month had gone by and while the pair had spoken close to nothing about the night they'd promised to try, they did spend even more time together. Zyah had decided to keep studies for the weekend and had joined Kyan on the soccer field, while he trained, she'd play fetch with Zuro who now barely fits on her lap anymore. They spent free afternoons in the park with Zuro too, Zyah found it adorable how he had began trusting her male counterpart a lot more, then in the evenings, they'd lay cuddled up on the couch in front of the TV.
It was a Friday evening, Zyah's study days started today. This meant that after supper, Kyan had to also go and study, leaving her all to herself until he'd interrupt and say he was going to bed. Zyah's classes usually end two hours after Kyan's. Meaning that Friday dinners were his baby, but when she walked into the house , he wasn't home. Calling out to him with no response, she'd remembered her phone had died. She plugged it into the charger on the kitchen counter and went to her bedroom to prepare for a shower.
On her bed lie a bouquet of purple roses with a note reading "purple roses, because I'm in love with you.", her jumpsuit he always compliments and three pairs of high heels for her to choose from. Just then she heard him speak. "Aw damn, I thought you'd be ready when I got back."He walked up to her, squeezing her into a hug. "Thank you, the roses are beautiful." Kyan smiled, he missed her kisses, but he promised he'd do things right, fighting his temptation he forced space between them. "Go on and get ready. We'll leave in an hour and no, I'm not telling you a thing." She huffed, but without argument she did as told. The hour had passed and Zyah was only finishing her make-up. A disgruntled Kyan barged into her room, he looked as if he were throwing a tantrum. "Jesus Zy, you're never this girly." Zyah looked at him through the mirror, smiling. "Well, I'd have you know, that if I knew about this before coming home, we may have been at our destination already." Kyan sighed, brushing a hand through his curly hair. "Okay, I'm sorry. I won't be this spontaneous anymore." He spoke loud enough for her to hear him. She chuckled. "I'm almost done. Give me five minutes."
That was what he gave her and by exactly ten to seven she was making her way down stairs. He'd just walked back into the house after feeding Zuro and leaving his water bowl filled. "We can go, you big baby." While they drove they spoke about their day. "Hey, why'd you leave so early this morning." Zyah asked after he'd given close to no details. "Yeah, I'm sorry. Slipped my mind to leave a note. I asked the dean to double my classes next week. I skipped them today and, finals are coming up." "Well, isn't that responsible of you?" Zyah mocked. "Why didn't you attend today though?" She asked, while he sheepishly tried to avoid looking at her. "Priorities Captain, priorities." The car ride came to an end and he held up a finger, got out of the car and held the passenger door open for her to get out.
Zyah looked around, while Kyan fiddled with the car seats. "Oh my good God, a drive in. It's been ages since I've been to one." "It's no longer open to the public. I got lucky, they're actually closing it down soon." "What, why? How come you got in then?" "I play ball with the owners son, asked if could use it for personal purposes."Kyan answered while he pulled the girl to the back of the car and placed snacks between them as the big screen was brought to light. "Get comfy, it's about to start." So she did, she cuddled into his open arms.
Almost half an hour had gone by before she realized that what played on screen wasn't a movie, except, it was home videos and pictures of her and Kyan while his recorded voice played in the background. He was telling her their story. When it came to the end, Zyah was in tears. Kyan pulled his arm out from beneath her, got out of the car before asking her. "Zyah would you please be my girlfriend." She laughed. She didn't have to deny her own thoughts anymore, so she spoke them aloud. "You are amazing, do you know that?" She dove into his arms. "Yes, I'll be your girlfriend."
