A week had passed since Destiny had started school in Abigail Adams High. While it seemed like she was officially a part of Riley's group, she had made it up with Sarah, as well, having gone out on the weekend. For the very first time, Destiny was actually going out with a friend. While to her peers, it didn't seem like much, she was overjoyed and hadn't slept well the night before.

Every day after school, she would go to the park with Tyler. Unfortunately, he didn't go to the same school as her. At class, Destiny would imagine how he was sitting in front of her and would turn around while the teacher wasn't looking to wink at her. She hadn't felt this pumped to meet him since she had met Keith.

She thought she could possibly have a crush on Tyler.

The previous weekend, however, she had gone shopping for new items for her bedroom, which was still being renovated. She was being accompanied by her father, who had taken this as a chance to spend more time with her daughter. On the way to the shops, he had told her stories from the catholic school in which he was teaching. She had found them pleasing and amusing.

As Destiny was checking out potted plants and frames for photographs, a familiar voice was heard.

"Hi!"

That voice could only belong to Riley Matthews. Who else? And she was also there with her father. How embarrassing.

Destiny was praying their fathers wouldn't stop to talk to each other. But her wish hadn't come true. Matthews didn't forget to mention he was Destiny's history teacher and Maximilian, like a good father wanted to know whether his daughter was doing well in Matthews' class.

"How about we look around together?", Riley suggested, clearly implying to leave their fathers to talk. Destiny, for the first time in her life, agreed with her.

As the girls walked away, Riley whispered excitedly in her ear:

"When's your next date with Tyler?"

Destiny shrugged. "I don't even know if he likes me that way."

Riley playfully poked her, laughing. Destiny didn't know what was that for. She knew that Riley had no intentions of hurting her, but was this a way to joke around? Because it surely reminded her of times when for misbehaving, she had been slapped. A decade ago.

Riley herself couldn't believe her friend would think that, having heard of Tyler and how they met in the park every day. "Of course he likes you that way, silly!"

Destiny felt like Riley was right. Unless Tyler had bad intentions? She preferred to pretend those kind of people didn't exist, having lived with such.

On the way home it wasn't as lively as earlier, until Maximilian mentioned how he thought Matthews was a nice person and how he had invited him and Destiny on a dinner at their house the next week to get to know. For Maximilian that would be an opportunity to meet more colleagues from different schools. He had no one to talk to about his career, besides his daughter, who wasn't sure if she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps. For Matthews, the dinner was going to be a chance to get to know Destiny outside of the classroom.

From that day, Destiny knew her father had some sort of expectations from her. The question was how was she going to live up to them.
