Disobeying Orders

I woke to my alarm going off. I got out of the bed and looked at the guard who was standing in my room. He's been there since yesterday after I got back from my mission. Harry wanted to make sure that I didn't try anything funny since I didn't finish the mission. He thought I might try to kill him in his sleep and that I'd disobey him. He's way too paranoid. But he does have a reason to worry. I hate him enough to want to kill him. I gave a death glare at the guard and he flinched. He walked out of the room and closed the door leaving me to my thoughts which were filled with Ashley. I wanted to see her again. I had to see her again. I don't care if I'm an assassin. I got dressed and went to go train but was stopped by someone grabbing my shoulder. My instincts kicked in and I grabbed the person's arm and pinned them to the ground still holding their arm. It was one of the guards.

Guard:S-sir! Wait! I have news from t-the director! He wishes t-to see you!

Me:Fine.

I helped the guard up and apologized to him before leaving. I made my way to Harry's office and walked in to see him writing some documents. He looked up and frowned.

Harry:You should learn to knock before entering.

Me:I heard you wanted to see me.

Harry:Yes. I wanted to make sure you know that you need to finish the job tonight. I don't care if there are any complications this time. The longer you wait, the more her dad will figure out.

Me:Very well. Is that all?

Harry:Yes. You may leave.

I left the room with a blank expression. More like an expression that looked blank but was filled with a desire to kill. But not the girl. Harry. I went to the training room which consisted of weights, bars, punching bags, and anything else Harry thought I might needed to help me get better. There was even a room in the back where I trained with different weapons against robots that would shoot at me and would defend. I went into that room and grabbed a crossbow off the wall. I pressed the start button on the wall and the robots began to move. The robots on the wall shot at me and I dodged every bullet. I aimed the crossbow and shot arrows into the dispensers. The robots exploded and I moved on to the defending robots. I aimed the crossbow at the wall and ricocheted off the wall and into the robot's head making it malfunction. I defeated the remaining robots and sighed. The robots were useless. I had already defeated them a number of times. I remembered when I couldn't even take out one without another almost taking me out. I ended up with many broken bones and wasn't getting anywhere. I eventually got better and could destroy the robots with ease. I put the crossbow back and walked out if the room which was now covered in robot parts. The day went by fast and the time came when I had to go complete my mission. I wore my usual clothing and, instead of a gun, grabbed my crossbow and left. I knew where she was. I went to the school and went inside. I wasn't going to wait for her to come out and be hassled again. I roamed the hallways and was on the second floor when I saw an open door. The light was escaping into the hallway and I slowly crept up to it and peered inside. Ashley was there cleaning the desks, her black hair shielding her face from me. She then sighed and went to the next desk. I had to hurry and finish this. I aimed my crossbow at her head and was about to pull the trigger until I heard a door close down the hallway. I immediately ran into another classroom and peeked to see the janitor walking towards the classroom Ashley was in. He went inside and I heard him say hi to her. I again walked to the door and peeked inside. The janitor was standing next to Ashley, admiring the good job she did on the desks.

Janitor:This is a nice job. Very nice.

Ashley:Thank you.

Her voice made it sound like she didn't want to be here. The tone gave it away. And the janitor. He sounded like he was flirting with her. The sick creep.

Janitor:Maybe I should give you a reward.

Ashley:That's not necessary.

Janitor:But I insist.

I watched as he grabbed her arm and kissed her hand. She narrowed her eyes onto him and I saw that she felt uncomfortable. I knew where this was going. He was planning to rape her. He then placed a hand on her cheek and pulled away the hair. He was aiming for her lips but she quickly turned her head so his lips made contact with her cheek. A sharp pain hit my heart and I flinched. What was it? Hatred? Jealousy? That can't be. I'm not supposed to feel anything. Yet I couldn't get rid of that pain. I knew the only way to get rid of it was to take out the janitor. Then Ashley. I aimed my crossbow at a critical point on his spine and pulled the trigger. It flew across the room and into his spine. He jerked his head backwards and fell to the ground, dead. Ashley looked at him with the same expression she had on yesterday while the criminal had a gun pointed at her head. She looked at the arrow in his back then at the door. Her eyes searching for the source of the arrow that had just killed the janitor. I aimed the arrow at her and was close to pulling the trigger when I heard her speak again.

Ashley:Seth? Is that you? If it is then can I see you?

She knew that I was there. I didn't have to guess at how she knew. It was because I saved her last time. Since I just saved her again, there is no way that I can kill her now. I've already saved her twice. I sighed and put down the crossbow. I stepped into the room and I saw Ashley put on a small smile. She walked over to me and hugged me.

Ashley:Thank you Seth. You've saved me twice. You're like my guardian angel.

Angel? I wasn't an angel. Or a guardian. I was the bringer of death. A reaper in my own way. Yet she saw past that and only saw the good. This is wrong. She doesn't know about me. Why I was really here.

Me:Ashley,listen. I'm here for a reason.

Ashley:What reason?

Me:It's a reason that I no longer wish to do. I'm an assassin from Gridlock and they sent me here to kill you.

Ashley took a few steps back and looked at me with a sad expression.

Ashley:Do you plan to listen to them? Do they control your life and choices?

Me:Not anymore. I don't want to be an assassin. I found out that I want to protect people instead. Especially you.

Ashley smiled and hugged me again. I couldn't help but hug her back. I made my mind up at that moment. I wasn't going to listen to Harry or Gridlock anymore. They could try to kill Ashely but I'll stop them. I knew that I would regret this in some way for this was the first time I have ever disobeyed orders.
