I looked at the figure standing before me. Their red eyes looked at me but the smile I remember was gone. Lifeless. Their hair hadn't changed and looked the same. Their smile wasn't warm but was plastered on their lips. Hex619. Devin Chambers. He walked into my room and closer to me while I just stood there. As he got closer, he extended his arms and put them around me in a hug. It felt the same but a bit stronger. If I remember correctly, he should be 20 now. When he pulled away, he connected his eyes to mine.
Devin:Nice to see you after so many years. You've gotten bigger.
Me:So have you.
Devin:Has Harry been treating you good? He can be such a bastard at times.
I didn't respond. Harry was already gone on account of the black TV screen. Devin went over to my bed and sat down as he let out a sigh.
Devin:This bed is so comfy. Unlike mine. The one I was forced to sleep on sucked.
Me:What are you doing?
Devin:I can't relax? Come on Seth. You've become worse since I left. I can't blame you though. Having to be hassled by Harry everyday is like hell. Of course, you've already been through that.
Me:Quit it.
Devin:Quit what?
Me:Quit acting like you don't know why you're here.
Devin:Seems you've gotten better at figuring out the small things about people. I was testing you and you passed. But I bet you already knew that didn't you?
Devin stood up and looked at me, his eyes piercing.
Devin:I heard from Harry that you didn't kill your target. Two times you were given the opportunity and you failed. A small girl was it? You should know by now Harry doesn't like failure.
Me:I don't need you to tell me that.
Devin:Yes I know. He's probably told you many times. But what I want to know is why you didn't kill her the first time. You've never had any problems with your other targets so what makes this one so special?
I said nothing. If he knew... no. He did know. I then began to feel angry. He was testing me to see if I could catch on to his little game. He always did that.
Me:Why ask a question you already know the answer to?
Devin:You really have gotten better. Harry told me what his informants told him. You didn't kill her because you like her. I thought I taught you how to turn your emotions off. And I certainly don't remember teaching you how to turn them on again. It was a one way deal.
Me:I know that. But...
Devin:But...?
Me:The target. She's... different.
Devin:Different in what way?
Me:In a special way.
Devin:What is this? Are you feeling affection towards her?
Affection? Was that the feeling? I've had my emotions off for so long I don't remember. Fear has always been the emotion I could never turn off. Now it seems that my other emotions are gradually unlocking bit by bit. I could feel myself start to get light headed. My vision began to blur and my body went a bit limp. I leaned against the wall and tried to steady myself. I just heard Devin snicker.
Devin:I knew this would happen. Your emotions really are resurfacing aren't they? This is what happens when they start to turn on after being off for so many years. But don't worry the pain will fade soon.
