I Was Wrong

I slept the rest of the night and well into the morning. I felt better when I woke up but I still felt weak. I showered and cleaned up since I felt extremely gross. I checked my phone and found one text from Aidan.

I’m sorry Ana. Please forgive me. I love you. A

I snapped my phone closed without replying. I didn’t know if I was mad at him but I knew I didn’t want to talk to him. He was wrong about his restraint. Part of me couldn’t help but think he was wrong about Jason too.

Michael poked his head in from the other room.

“Ready?”

“Yeah. Just give me a second to get my shoes on.”

He was taking me out for lunch before we left for the airport. I pulled on my boots and grabbed my coat. Michael grabbed my scarf and looped it around my neck.

“You look like a snow bunny,” he said.

I smiled. “You’re cute.”

He was filling the Vampire stereotype today by wearing all black, black slacks, black boots, black button up shirt, and a long black coat. I definitely loved a man in black. And he did the whole look justice.

Michael smiled and I blushed. “Sorry.”

He leaned down and kissed me. It was one of those heart stopping, life changing, whirlwind kisses. I groaned when he pulled away.

“If you keep kissing me like that we might never leave New York.”

He cupped my cheek and kissed my forehead. “Come on, Αγάπη. Let’s get you something to eat.”

“Remember I have to stop by the security office to let them know I’m not going to the New Year’s thingamabob.”

“How could I forget?”

He took my hand and we headed out. We stopped by the Security office but they looked pretty busy so I figured we could stop by on the way back.

“So where are we going?” I asked, securing my seat belt.

“An old restaurant on the waterfront.”

“Oooo. Seafood. Yum.”

He laughed. “I didn’t say anything about seafood.”

“Oh come on, Michael. If it’s on the waterfront they have to serve seafood. It’s like a theme or something.”

My phone rang before he could reply. I flipped it open and looked at the number. I didn’t recognize it but I answered anyways.

“Hello?”

“Ms. Vertigo?”

“Yes…?”

“This is Chase Hanover.”

I sighed and looked at Michael. “Mr. Hanover. What can I do for you?”

Michael frowned and glanced at me. I didn’t want to talk to Aidan’s father. He was a nasty piece of work.

“I’ve noticed you haven’t sent back the RSVP for the party this evening.”

“Yes. I regret not being able to come. I’ll be leaving the city in a few hours.”

I heard the click of his tongue. “That’s unfortunate. My wife was so looking forward to seeing you again.”

“Please give her my apologies. But some things have come up and I really need to get back to the school.”

“I understand completely. If you change your mind please feel free to come by.”

“I’ll do that.”
