"Hi Aubrey," Hunter said sitting down near her grave. "Why did you do it?" he asked towards the ground. Lifted his hands to his head and rubbed his temples. "You'd love Lucy, probably hate me for not knowing about her for a while, and for me being a dick, but you'd love her and she'd love you so much, you have no idea."
"I guess I just wish you were here, Jordan is getting ridiculous. I hardly get to see my girl anymore. I wonder what our kids would have looked like," he said stopping himself, as if she were actually there, she probably would have said something like: "Really Hunter, you're already thinking about kids."
He would have said yes, then they'd argue about it, take a brake then have sex and fix everything. He smiled. He remembered her so perfectly. Her hair, her smile, her height, her smell, everything.
"You were supposed to be my always," he said laying on the ground now. "I wish we could be closer, when I die, I call dibs on this spot," He laughed, he almost felt her laugh back.
"Remember that tattoo you got? 'Protect me from what I want,' I tried," he laughed again.
"You wanted to leave, I should have protected you," he said rolling onto his back, staring at the sky. "I should have done so much more."
"It's not your fault," Silas said walking up to Hunter.
"Sure feels like it,"
"I know, we each could have done more," Silas said laying down next to him, on the other side of Aubrey's grave.
"No we couldn't have, I could have. You jumped in to save her, I didn't even try," Hunter said sitting up, running his hands through his hair.
"I miss her too man, but we can't change anything now," Silas said sitting up.
"I'm going to find a way," Hunter said standing up, going back to his truck.
"Hey, let's go get pizza and talk about it. Ya know, before you do anything stupid," Silas laughed walking up to Hunter.
"Fine, hop in," Hunter smiled as he nodded his head towards his truck.
——
"The best thing you can do now is forgive yourself. Especially considering the fact it wasn't your fault," Silas said while sipping his soda.
"But how did we not know Silas? She was just, gone," he sighed as he ran a french fry through the ketchup.
Silas sighed, trying to think of a way to explain what he was thinking. "Remember the day we all had before she, ya know?" He suggested. Hunter nodded, waiting for Silas to go on.
"Maybe she just wanted it to be a good last memory," he said, sipping his soda.
"The world is fucking bleak without her," Hunter said as he slid out from the booth.
"Hey hey hey," Silas yelled following Hunter out of the restaurant. "I understand how hard this past year has been for you, but I never knew it was this bad. Dude, maybe you should see someone," Silas suggested.
"Like a therapist? I'm not doing that," He said turning around again.
"Fine!" Silas yelled. "But I have another idea. We'll go out, like to a club or some shit tonight, take your mind off of it."
"Fine, text me later and I'll meet you,"
——
"Are you sure this is going to help?" Hunter asked.
"It'll only help if you let it," Silas said as he slipped away into the crowd.
Hunter made his way up to the bar and ordered a few drinks, all for himself. He downed the first two then grabbed a third one to sip on. As he walked away from the bar a girl bumped into him.
"Watch it," she spat.
"I-I'm sorry," hunter sighed, rubbing his forehead.
"I'm kidding ya know?" She smiled, moving her face to look into his eyes. "What's wrong and can you fix it because if not you just need to move on," she told him.
"That's easier said than done," he said with a hardly audible laugh.
"Nooo, here I'll help," she said as she started dancing around him. The way her body moved reminded him of Aubrey. And when he looked at this girl that's all he saw.
He gave into the image of Aubrey and began to dance with this girl. He spun her around and she held close to him and danced up on him. He began to loosen up and got more into dancing.
"Names Aubrey," she smiled and she danced her way around him. Little did Hunter realize she said her name was Aspen.
"I know," he smiled.
She gave him a confused look but laughed it off as she backed into him and placed his hands on her waist.
"Don't get to carried away sweetheart," he laughed looking down at her, her hair was no longer purple, it was silver now but he loved her all the same.
"Sweetheart?" She asked as she continued to move to the music. "I like that."
"I know," He smirked as he kissed her neck.
"Follow me," she said as she took his hand and lead him to the alley way outside the bar.
She grabbed the collar of his coat and pushed him against the wall.
"Are you okay with this?" She asked.
"Of course sweetheart," She stood on her tip toes and kissed him. He kissed back with passion at the feel of the soft lips he'd been missing for over a year now. He continued to kiss her, the girl he dreamt of all this time.
"You're good at that," she muttered.
"I try," he managed to say. She took his hand again and led him a little further down the alley and snuck him in her window.
"I love this," he said as he climbed through the window.
They began tearing off each other's clothes. The girl led a trail of kisses down his chest until she met his pants, she quickly unbuckled them.
"Aubrey," Hunter sighed at the touch of the girl. She quickly pulled away from him and grabbed her clothes off the floor, shielding herself from him. He looked down at her and immediately realized it wasn't Aubrey and that it would never ever be Aubrey.
He pulled his pants back up and climbed out the window with his shirt and jacket in hand. He threw them on as he ran along the alley and then along the sidewalk. He ran back to where he used to sell drugs, a new kid was selling stuff in his spot now. Hunter made his way up to the kid.
"Leave," he growled.
"Get the hell out of here, this isn't your terr-" the kid spoke. Hunter just let out a grunt as he smashed his fist into the dumpster. The kid grabbed his bag and ran off.
Hunter punched the dumpster again, and again and again. He then slide has back against it and began to cry, this was the first time he cried since her funeral and man did it feel good, he just sat there and wept.
He felt weak but he didn't care anymore, he was lost without her, he was broken without her. So he just cried, about all the things he could have done differently, all the things he missed about her, all the things he was to afraid to say, all the missed opportunities, every little thing that had any little thing to do with her and just cried.
