Protect me from who I am,
Protect me from what I’ll be.
Protect me from what they call life,
Because I’m not ready to leave.
Mama don’t you understand?
I want to be in your safe warm hand.
Don’t throw me out into the world,
It’s not good for me and I cannot take it.
Teach me what is right,
In the safety of your home.
Tell me those little secrets,
No one else will dare breath in my soul.
I cannot help but cry,
‘Cause you’ll be gone in year’s time.
And I’ll be in the world,
Fending like you did for this child of mine.
