You were always making promises, but never keeping them.
I didn't mind at first because they were little things, like treats or presents.
But then you broke the biggest promise of all . . . . .
You promised you would always be there, that you would always be my DAD.
And yet, you willingly broke that promise. And my heart along with it.
I sat for years wondering, trying to figure out what I did wrong, but I finally understand that it's YOUR FAULT! Not Mine!
After I made peace and started to collect the shards of my broken heart you came back, apologizing for everything. And I BELIEVED YOU!
. . . That was my mistake.
You broke my heart again, and restarted the cycle that you created.
How many injuries will it take for me to stop accepting you back into my life?!?
So in the words of Sam Smith, who said it better than I ever could, " I'm way too good at goodbyes..."
