John rang Alex's doorbell. It had been about two months since they met, and they had been hanging out at least three times a week. John would never admit it, but Alex was actually starting to appear in his dreams....

John shook himself slightly. No, don't think about that. Not right now.

The door opened, and Alex stood there, slightly disheveled from laying in bed. He smiled. "Hey, man."

John grinned back, stepping inside. "'Sup?"

Together, they walked over to the couch and sat down next to each other. Alex turned on the TV like always and turns to a random channel - this time it's just the news.

John leaned back, his hands in his lap, his eyes on the screen. He didn't notice Alex watching him.

After a few moments, John glanced at Alex out of the corner of his eye, and Alex looked away, blushing slightly. John prepared himself, taking a deep mental breath...

... and leaned his head on Alex's shoulder.

He felt Alex stiffen slightly at the touch and desperately hoped he hadn't done the wrong thing and ruined their close friendship... but then Alex leaned his head back, resting it on top of John's head.

John sighs in relief. Maybe they could still have a normal relationship after all.

The next morning, John woke up on the couch. It had gotten late, and it was too dark for John to walk back to his apartment, so he stayed at Alex's.

John sat up and stretched, yawning. He had a blanket over him - was that there when he fell asleep last night? He wasn't sure.

Hearing something in the kitchen, John stood up and walked towards the sound. Alex was in there, pouring some cereal. He turned around at the sound of footsteps and smiled. "Hello, sleepyhead. Sleep well?"

John nodded, yawning again. "Yeah.... You?"

"Yeah, I slept fine." Alex turned back to the cereal, pouring some milk.

John leaned back against the counter. "That's good...."

John grabbed a box of cereal, pouring some for himself. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see that Alex's eyebrows were furrowed slightly and there were dark circles under his eyes. His shoulders were slumped, which is unusual for Alex, who always seemed so content in the mornings. "... You okay, dude?"

He noticed Alex stiffen slightly. He looked up at John, plastering a fake smile on his face. "... Yep."

John frowned and set down the cereal. "No you're not, Alex. What's wrong?"

Alexander looked him in the eyes. "... I've been friendzoned."

Before John knows what he's doing, he hears words coming out of his mouth: "What do you mean? I thought I was the one in the friendzone."

Alexander gives him a weird look.

"... John, I was joking."
