"I'm sorry. I really should watch where I'm going." I say to the woman I just bumped into.
"No it's my fault. I was the one standing in the way." The woman says.
"I'm Dylan by the way." I stick out my hand for her to shake.
"Patricia. What brings a man like you to my little old jewelry store."
"I'm actually here to look for an engagement ring."
"Who's the lucky girl?"
"Amelia Applegate."
"I didn't think Meli would ever be able to find another guy after Dylan Grant left. How did you two meet?"
"Um, this is a little awkward, but I'm Dylan Grant."
"Dylan? I didn't even recognize you. My have you changed."
"Do I know you?"
"I would hope so. I've only known you my whole life. It's me, Patricia. I used to hang out with Mira and Hailey all the time."
"I thought you looked familiar. You've sure changed yourself. I thought you moved to New York."
"And I thought you joined the Army." We both laugh. "I lived in New York for about a month before I realized it wasn't for me. I missed my small town life."
"Did I hear you wrong earlier? Did you say this is your shop?"
"You didn't hear wrong, it's mine. I had been saving up money for years so when I got to New York, I could get my own apartment or something. My aunt didn't make me pay for anything while I was there. When I came back, I had saved enough money up to buy myself a house and this little shop. It's not much, but it is mine."
"That's so cool that you were able to do this. Did you design it too?"
"Actually that was Meli. She's an awesome interior designer. Speaking of Meli, you're here to buy her a ring?"
"Right, do you think you can help me pick one out?"
"I would think she would be here to help you pick it out. Or have you not asked her yet?"
"Not yet. I already talked to Jack and Andy, both of them gave me their blessings."
"Jack I understand, but why Andy?"
"Meli's always been closest to Andy, I just figured it was right to ask him too."
"You are probably the only guy that would think of that. I think I know the perfect ring for you to give Meli. If you'll wait right here." Patricia goes into the back and comes back after a few minutes with a ring box. "Meli's always really liked this one."
"Thanks Patricia." I take the box without even looking at the ring. I trust Patricia enough to know she wouldn't give me a horrible ring. "Aren't you going to look at it?"
"No, I trust you. If you say Meli will like it, then I know she will."
"Alright, let's get you rang up then." Patricia leads me to the cash register. "Since you're going to stick around now, why don't you call me Tricia, everyone is these days."
"Didn't I try that one time before? If my memory is right, you chewed me out for weeks about it."
"That was the old Patricia. I'm the new, more laid back, Tricia now. I've rededicated my life to the Lord and now I'm less quick to anger. You remember how I used to be."
"I think everyone does, but that's in the past now."
"Right. So when are you going to ask Meli?"
