chapter 2 (a week before September 1st)

A week before September first. I spent my morning with my younger siblings while my parents went through some papers for our bakery since I would be going to Hogwarts in a week And my siblings were too young to work at the bakery. We all sat in the sitting room, playing exploding snaps before I cut the game short with an apology before walking to my bedroom to dress for my workday at the bakery with my dad. He had promised me I could shop for my school supplies during my lunch break.

Once entering my room I quickly moved to my closet and grabbed an old dress shirt and black pants, walking over to my full body mirror just next to my closet I slip my work clothes on, patting down and fixing my dress shirt, gently folding the sleeves up and cuffing my black pants just once. I walk over to my dresser and grab some plain white socks and slip them on along with my plain black shoes that sat next to the dresser.

Bending over and letting my dark hair fall around my face, I gather it all in my fist, fixing it into a high ponytail. I stood up, keeping a hand gripped around my hair before I grabbed a hair tie from my dresser, tying my hair upright as I walk out of my room and headed downstairs just as my parents start putting papers away.

Once entering the sitting room I share a small smile with my mom as my dad greeted me while he holds his hand out to aperate to our family bakery. My other siblings had run to our backyard and could still be heard laughing and giggling -albeit muffled- "ready Joe?" I nodded with a smile after my mom handed me my school supply list

"Yes, I'm so excited! I can't wait to get my wand today and say my final goodbyes to the bakery" I grabbed his still outstretched hand before he aperated us to the bakery. My stomach turned every which way before we landed in the bakery office towards the back.

"I hope I heard you wrong when you said you'd be saying your final goodbye to the bakery Joel" I heard my dad say from beside me in a sad tone

Shaking my head "that's not what I meant dad, I meant just until Christmas break of course. You know I could never say goodbye to this place forever." I hugged my dad knowing it brought him sadness when he thinks about our bakery closing or being sold to someone out of family since the bakery has been in his family for over 100 years.

Just last year he asked us what we wanted to do when we grew up, and the triplets all want to be quidditch players, similar to my mom's career.

Pulling away he cleared his throat and motioned for me to fix my wrinkled shirt while he did the same. Both he and my mom are big on appearances and can be strict when our outfits look out of place.

Quickly, like the routine we headed to the kitchens, washing our hands before my dad pulled his wand out and started baking pastries and loaves of bread for today while I walked over to a hook next to the main door that leads to the main floor of the café and order station.

On the hooks had two aprons. A name over top of the aprons. Mine was a gray dress apron, it when past my knees and had black straps and a black tie that went around the back and tied in the front. Quickly I put it on and grabbed a small pen and notepad, shoving them into the right front pocket before I walked over to the sinks, I grabbed a rag and a spray bottle before walking out of the kitchen while my dad baked and put his apron on which had the same colors as mine, except shorter than my own and had an engraved name on this. -Elwin Shade-

Once at the front of the café I sprayed and wiped the front counter off, quickly got the displays out, and made sure the register had enough money in it for the day to begin. Quickly I opened the small swinging food that acts as a part of the counter. And started wiping off tables and putting chairs down before I turned over the closed sign to open.
