I walked into my new school. There was silence through the halls as me and my aunt walked to the main office. I gave the office lady a quick glance before I started to look around the corridors. The walls were painted a light purple and dark teal colour, while framed art was hanging up. There were small back chairs across from the office window, where a young boy and older woman sat.
It wasn't long before I had a lady around her mid thirties beside me, who I was presuming was a teacher, walking me through the school to my class.
'This is your timetable, there will be someone coming for you at the end of your classes to pick you up for the rest of the week.' She walked me through the lunch hall handing me my PIN number for lunch and told me the best times to top up my money. She walked through loads of long corridors explaining where everything was until she came to a stop.
'This is you.' She told me. I have her a smile before she opened the door and walked right in, I however hovered at the door waiting for a invite in. I heard hushed chatter, probably talking about the new girl.
The teacher that was showing me about walked back over to me and put a hand on my shoulder and told me a quick good luck before leaving.
'Well hello there, you must be...' The bald make teacher asked me before he grabbed his glassed from beside the computer and read what seemed to be the register.
'Oh yes, you must be Jennifer?' He asked as he put his hand on my back and ushered me away from the door and closed it behind me.
I gave a slight nod before looking around the classroom.
'Well Jennifer, I'm Mr Donnaly and this is my history class.' He motioned to the full class of pupils with his hands as the all stared back.
'Would you like to introduce yourself to the class? Maybe a bit about yourself?' He sat down on his desk full of papers and textbooks while I was left standing in a class full of strangers. I was a deer in headlights.
Well I may as well tell them why I'm hear because it's clearly what there all wondering.
'Im Jennifer and I'm here because my parents were killed two months ago. I live with my aunt and uncle with my little sister Lisa.' I pulled my bag off my shoulder and headed to the two empty seats up the back, ignoring all the shocked looks.
The room was silent as I pulled of my jacket and placed it on the back of the seat and threw my bag under the table.
'Okay, well it's lovely for you to join our school, Jennifer.' He attempted to smile at me which failed.
'And everyone's to be nice to Jennifer, understand class?' The whole class said quite yes' and started to act busy. I suddenly regretted my words as I put my head down and listened to what ever Mr Donnaly had to say about world war ll.
The period went fast and before I knew it there was a girl knocking at the door telling me she's going to be taking me around school.
I got out if the classroom and started walking behind the girl. Then I had a thought.
'Um how do you know where to take me?' I asked her. She looked over her shoulder then slowed down to my pace and walked beside me.
'Mrs Rapson gave me a copy of your timetable.' She explained. I guessed that Mrs Rapson was the teacher I met first.
We fell into a comfortable silence until we stopped outside a classroom still filled with people.
'We can stay out here till the bell goes then you can go in.' The girl said. I nodded.
I started looking around feeling very awkward about standing here.
'Have you been in this school since first year?' I asked trying to break out of the awkwardness.
'Nope, I moved here last year. It's a nice school.' She gave me a smile then carried on, 'when I moved here they got a newish person to take me around the school for the first week, they do it a lot. You'll be doing it next probably.'
I gave her a funny look and asked her why they school does that and she simply told me that it was 'just one of those things'.
The bell went and the girl started to walk to her next class. Pupils from the previous class started walking through the class room doors and when everyone was out I walked in and told the teacher who I was.
'Oh okay, just take a seat anywhere and I'll move you around when the class is here, okay?' I nodded and sat at the far left near the windows.
When I looked out I could see a bike shed without any bikes, grass that had been just cut, and picnic benches scattered around on the concrete. I heard the class start to fill up behind me as I kept looking out the window when there was a tap on my shoulder.
I turned round to a tall boy standing beside me. He had medium length hair that was swept to the side which matched his dark blue eyes. He had many freckles and was wearing a black shirt and trousers with the schools tie.
'Um hi, your in my seat.' He said. I kept staring and he must have thought I had frozen. He have me a funny look. Well done Jennifer, scare the hot guy to death. He started to laugh as I reached under the table to grab my bag and slide off the chair.
'You didn't have to move,' he told me. 'I could have found another seat.'
'Its fine.' I mumbled as I started to walk back a few chairs and sit down, hoping that it wasn't anyone's seat.
The teacher started and thankfully didn't make me introduce myself again.
About half way through the class the boy in front of me turned around and handed me a note. Confused I opened it up and it read,
-maybe you can sit beside me tomorrow? I'll even let you have my seat...-
I looked up and the boy who I had encountered early was looking at me with a friendly half smirk. I wrote him a not back saying,
-okay, but I can find my own seat! :p-
I handed it to the guy in front to hand forward and when the boy read it I could see him laughing.
