He gets a call while he's at the office. He doesn't recognize the number, but he picks up anyway. He figures it must be something work-related.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Baekhyun?" It's Junmyeon's voice. Baekhyun stomach does a turn. "It's Junmyeon. Sorry if I'm bothering you."
"You're not," Baekhyun says. "Hi, hyung. Aren't you busy getting ready for your big day? Everything okay?"
"Yes," Junmyeon says. "Everything's fine." His tone is polite but serious. This is his authoritative voice, the one he uses when he's pissed off. "I wanted to know if you're free today. I'd like to talk to you, in person, if you aren't busy."
Baekhyun presses his lips in a line. If there's something he wasn't expecting in any way, it was this. "I'll be free by 6, I think," he says. He licks his lips. "Is this about Kyungsoo?" he asks, because he never learned to bite his tongue.
Junmyeon replies after a pause. "Yes," he says, and Baekhyun knows there's no way he can get away from this.
They meet up in a coffee shop few blocks away from where Baekhyun works. Junmyeon greets him a genuine smile and a hug, and pays for their order, and it only makes Baekhyun feel worse.
"So," Junmyeon says once they take a table, both of them with sweet drinks in front of them. "How's work? Have you been busy?" Junmyeon takes a careful sip from his drink. "You didn't meet Junghwan."
Right. Jongdae had invited him to go out with Junmyeon's fiancé and the others, but he knew Kyungsoo has going to be there, so he didn't go.
"Yeah, sorry" Baekhyun's tense. He's usually better at talking than this. "I've been busy. I'm sure you've been a lot busier, though."
Junmyeon smiles at that. "Probably," he says. "There's still a lot to do. Even more now that my best man's so distracted."
Instead of replying, Baekhyun takes a long sip from his coffee. He wasn't expecting Junmyeon to be so straight-forward. Junmyeon takes his silence as a sign to continue. "Baekhyun-ah," he says. "I don't know the full story of what happened between you two, only what Kyungsoo told me." He looks down at his drink, and his mouth makes a tiny pout. "I'm not good at giving advice, but there's something I'd like to tell you, it that's okay."
"It's okay, hyung," Baekhyun says. "I can take it."
Junmyeon nods. "Okay. I don't know if you remember, but when I first told you guys about Junghwan, I said we had dated for two years before he proposed." Baekhyun remembers, so he nods. "That's not the whole story."
"How so?"
"Well," Junmyeon seems unsure, as if he doesn't know how to say what comes next. "Me and Junghwan... we were like you and Kyungsoo, at the beginning."
"Oh," Baekhyun raises both eyebrows. "What do you mean, like us?"
