The last thing Stephen saw through his hazy vision was her chocking on the ground, with a trail of blood against the side of her cheeks. The man was stalking towards her, his sword shrieking against the stone walls tantalizingly.
" Lisa," Stephen screamed, trying to break free of the restraints around him. They were made of the same materials as his demir mitfah, but instead of channeling magic, they were crafted specifically to suppress any mystical energy.
Everything was going so well, he was sure that they had won. That was until the so-thought dead man sprung back to life and attacked Stephen from behind. It happened too quick for him, and seconds later he found himself knocked in the head with the hilt of his sword. Both his wrists cuffed and bounded.
He had to watch Lisa deflect his attacks one by one, alone. Soon, she began to run out of spells- she was panting and coughing, not a moment later she collapsed against the ground as his fist collided with her jaw.
The witch hunter hovered above her, his sword glinting against the setting sun. Stephen blinked through the headache seeping against his temples, and he weakly croaked out," Lisa ! "
She struggled to get back on her feet, her elbows could only support her trembling body as she heaved out in pain," Leave, Stephen...."
" Don't even think about doing one of your tricks, sorcerer," The hunter spat, " I'm going to be the only one leaving this room, with both of your heads and the book as my trophies," The witch hunter spat, narrowing his eyes at Stephen.
He stepped on her back, and Lisa writhed against the weight, trying to crawl away. But it was useless, she felt pathetic, as if she was an ant picking a quarrel with a boot. He had his sword raised above his head, ready to swing it across her neck.
Stephen couldn't hear himself as he screamed her name, the ringing in his ears intensified as the world spun.
The sword slashed through the air, and Stephen stumbled across the floor, his legs wobbling as they forced himself to stand.
But he never reached her, and neither did the sword.
Instead, it skittered across the room with a clang, and figure approached him, it was a woman. She aimed her gun at him, pushing him away from Lisa as another man jogged to her. He swiftly checked her for any injuries, before going towards Stephen.
" Oi, are you Strange ?" He snapped his fingers in front of his face, and Stephen could only managed a weak nod.
" Bloody fuck, what happened to you? Wake up, hey, don't die on me!"
He guided his hand across his shoulder, and Stephen slouched against his side as the side of his abdomen throbbed in pain.
" Fuck! You're bleeding, didn't you notice that ?"
Stephen shook his head in response, and the shorter man growled," I swear to God, I need a raise. Stay right here, my colleague needs back up. Apply pressure on the -"
" I know," Stephen murmured," I'm... I was, a .. doctor."
" Well then," The man stood," Doctor Strange, I'm Agent Ross, from the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate, or SHIELD for short. Here to help you, and recruit you. So do me a favor and don't fucking die on me."
He could only give a weak smile in reply as he ran towards the source of gunshots, and with the very last bit of energy he had, Stephen dragged himself across the room to Lisa.
He tugged the stands of hair falling across her face to the side of her ears, revealing her busted lip. He stroked his thumb across her cheek, " You fought well."
She stirred, eyes barely opened as she gazed up at him," You're...hurt."
" So are you," he laid across her,the pounding in his head began to intensify ," Help..is here."
" I'm glad, you're safe," she whispered, before her eyes fluttered shut. Stephen propped himself against his elbows, and out of impulse, out of relief , he pressed his lips against her temple.
" I'm glad you are too."
Footsteps approached him, and he could hear the woman frantically screaming at her partner as she knelt next to Lisa.
He could hear them shouting for him to stay awake.
But the weight of his eyelids were too heavy to bear,so he let them close, and darkness finally overtook him.
