I walk to the kitchen of my small house. The floors creaked under foot and you could smell the sizzling bacon that my mom stood cooking on the stove. I smiled and took a deep breath in.
"Threya it is not polite to sneak to just stand in the shadows. Take a seat before I give the bacon to the dog."
I smiled and quickly sat at our kitchen table. It has always just been my mom and I. My dad disappeared once I was born. Always wondered why but there was nothing I could do about it. I am only a kid. Well a skilled kid but a kid. You know how when you are kid and you stick your finger in the electrical socket and you get electrocuted? Well when I was being that kid when I was six I wasn't hurt. I actually just reflected it accidentally burning a whole in the rug. My mom laughed at it and scolded me but she didn't seemed freaked out by it. I mean there is no one else that is like me... that I know of. No one that has weird abilities. No one that can control something. Nothing, nodda, no one else. So from that day on. I refused to attempt to do what ever I did that day. It is the right thing to do. So you know, random scientists don't come banging down my door so they can poke me with needles.
"So what do you want to do today?"
My mom sat down across from me setting two lates I front of us. I shrugged my shoulders.
"I don't know. Why don't you choose."
My mom rolled her eyes.
"I always choose silly. And sides I am not the one turning fourteen today."
I laughed. But something happened when I did. The house shook slightly and my mom slowly stood up just as the house shook again. The chandler started to rock back and forth on its chain to a point I was scared it was going to fall.
"... mom what is going on?"
The house shook again causing us to fall. My mom quickly got up grabbing me too and we rushed to my room. She flipped the rug and started running her hand over the hard wood floors till she found the small latch. She tugged it open just as the ceiling started to crack. My mom cursed under her breath. An ear piercing scream rang out as the ceiling continued to crumble. I was hiding under my bed when my mom grabbed me by my shoulder and started pushing me towards the opening in the floor.
"Take the tunnel to the other side. It leads out to the forest line..."
She took the red stone from her neck and put it in the palm of my hand.
"... take this and call for help through prayer. Your father will take you to safety."
"What my father? I thought you said you didn't know where he went. And the stupid rock won't bring him...."
The house shook again and a whole formed and through it stood a worm like monster. I looked at it and back to my mom.
"I don't have to explain now go!"
She slammed the door shut and darkness swarmed around me.
I felt the tears on my cheeks as I ran through the stupid tunnel. Once I saw day light. I sprinted like my life depended on it because In a way it did. I broke through breathing heavy and looked at my house. It was collapsed and was in splinters. There was no way my mom would be alive. No way. I grabbed the rock that now hung around my neck. I looked to the sky and asked the one thing I needed.
Help?
The air around me grew cold then nothing came upon me. I blinked a few times after my bare feet hit a new surface. It was cold and colorful but soft all the same time. I looked over to see a man standing with a weird helmet and a huge sword.
