A little over a week had passed since Adalynn had told me she was sick, and I had tried my best everyday to do something around the house to help her. So far I had touched up the paint on the out side of the house watered the yard, I made it a habit to wash the dishes nightly. But my biggest undertaking one that I worked on daily was planting flowers, I had moved some large planters and buckets from the basement to the front porch and I would venture out into the field and woods around the house in search of flowers I deemed pretty enough to dig up and relocate to the house. Adalynn seemed pleased that I was so eager to help her. Today I just focused on getting a few to put in mason jars for the windows inside the house.
I had looked in the field only finding a few, gently digging them up and placing them in my basket. I decided to head into the woods because it seemed I had dug up every flower in the field. I had almost found all that I needed when I saw something move out of the corner of my eye, I quickly whipped around and was met with a boy. I was almost at ease until he looked up at me, and I thought I recognized his face from my dream. My blood ran cold in my veins seeming to almost stop pulsing through my body before I looked at him a little closer realizing that he was vastly different. I breathed deeply trying to calm myself not completely sure why I had reacted that way.
"Are you ok?" He asked with worry evident in his face.
"Yeah, I just didn't really expect to see anybody out here. Who are you anyways?" I stuttered out still in slight shock.
"I'm Vincent Carter, who are you? I've never seen you around here before." He replied
"I'm Dahlia Leighton, I'm staying with Adalynn Paige, do you know her?" I asked.
"Not really I've heard of her though." He said running a hand through his hair.
"Oh well I guess I'd better get back to what I was looking for." I said before turning and beginning to walk aimlessly looking for the last few I needed.
"I can help, I live just on the other side of the woods." He said catching up to me before adding, "Come on I've lived here for ages I know some really great spots to find flowers."
"How'd you know that's what I was doing?" I replied to him.
"Well your carrying a basket full of uprooted flowers and you have a little shovel in your hand so I kind of put two and two together." He said grinning as he spoke.
"Ok well if you know some good spots I'd be stupid to turn you down." I said.
He nodded and began to walk through the woods I followed behind him cautiously. After he helped me find the last few I needed I began to walk home. Before he stopped me placing a hand on my shoulder so I would turn to speak to him.
"If you'd like I could help you plant them." He said.
"Sure if you really want to." I huffed out.
