Draco's heart had stopped beating in his chest.

Literally. He couldn't breathe, everything around him was standing still. All he could see was Hermione as she turned slowly – far too slowly – towards that monster that had just appeared out of the fog behind her. Its face was a hideous mess of old dark blood and its eyes were a dull grey while its skin sagged from decay.

One breath in, exhale. Move.

He pushed his legs forward, pushing aside Harry as he too turned, wide-eyed towards Hermione. Draco took one step, then another, then he was running, his axe raised as the dead one reached out a mangled hand to place on her shoulder. It clamped down, pulling her towards it as she struggled to move away. The ugly rotting face snapped its teeth, eager to bite down on her neck.

Draco ran faster.

But, he wasn't fast enough. Hermione tried to pull herself away, tearing at the monster's fingers. Its mouth was dangerously close to her skin and her voice rose to hysterical pitch as she tried to fight it off, pushing at its lopsided shoulders.

Then Augurey, quick as a little bolt of lightning, sprung forward, jabbing the large kitchen knife she was carrying right through its skull. The dead man slumped forward, the knife still in its head, a gush of thick brown blood gushing all over her and Hermione. It now splattered both of their faces, the smell of its rot stinging Draco's nostrils.

Augurey bent down, kicking the immobilized corpse over and pressed a boot to its chest. With a small grunt, she ripped the knife out of it. The strength required to stab a man in the head had Draco standing frozen, his jaw hanging open as reality slowly started to seep back into him.

"There's more!" Zabini shouted, spurring Draco back into action. Without thinking he ran up to a still shaking Hermione and grabbed her arm.

"We've 'gotta go," he said softly, but with a sense of urgency. She turned her wide chocolate colored eyes to him and nodded, trying to shake off her state of shock.

Beside them, where Hermione's attacker had appeared, he could just make out another shadowy figure, swaying on a stiff leg as it tried to come after them, having heard Hermione's screams previously. Draco had no idea how many had gotten over to this side of the stadium already, but he wasn't sticking around to find out.

He moved the other way, pulling Hermione behind him, urging her to move forward. Then he stopped as he saw something else moving in the mist towards them from the other direction.

"Bloody fog! I can't see anything!" he muttered with a curse.

"If we go straight, we can head towards my house. If we get separated, let's all meet there. We'll wait for a day. Hopefully, it's not still overrun," Luna shouted over to them.
