Time Lost
Mr. President, Mr. Secretary General, fellow delegates, ladies and gentlemen:
The United Nations. Sounds wonderful doesn't it? The United Nations. Over seventy years that name has been in force and today we are still discussing the same global concerns, the old standards. Poverty, disease, hunger, war, human rights, and now the deterioration of our environment.
Can we all be up front and honest with one another; the taint of politics aside? Can we admit that we are not united, and those concerns we have discussed for so long will still be on the table generations from now?
How about joining hearts and minds and tackling just one of those problems. Just one, and solving it together - now.
Put the full weight of this body behind a specific, single objective, no partisanship and no qualifications. Just imagine how quickly events could change. It will take time, and it's only one of the problems but at least something will have been accomplished and we won't spend another seventy years just talking about it.
On behalf of those future generations, I beseech you, act now.
Thank you for your time and your attention. I hope we didn't just waste more.
