"Wake up Tara!" my mom shouted from outside my bedroom.
I sprung out of bed and ran down the stairs. I got dressed and ran to my moms car. Once she got all the boys in the car she rushed us all to school. First she dropped my off at the middle school. Then, she drove the boys to the high school. I went to my first hour class just before announcements started.
"Don't forget Cougars, Tonight at 6:00 are basketball tryouts for middle school and high school students. If you are interested you may pick up an information packet in the main office." the principal said over the loud speakers.
Before I knew it, it was time for lunch. I never ate so, I went straight to the cafeteria. As soon as I sat down the loud speaker crackled and then the principal's voice started to talk,
"Tara Carter to the main office IMMEDIATELY!"I did not like the way she said immediately so I didn't hesitate. I jumped out of my seat, put my ID on one of the dismissal hooks and ran to the office. When I got into the office I saw my brothers all sitting next to each other, side by side. The vibe in the room was depressing. It was like a jail cell, not a single good feeling when you walked in.
"Tara, sit down." the principal said, "I know you all are wondering why you are all sitting here right now. Well I am afraid I have some terrible news. Your mother and father were killed in a car crash."
I fell to my knees. I felt the boys grasping on to me. I felt everything fall apart around me. My mom was like my rock and my dad was like my best friend.
"Wait where are me and my brothers going to stay now. Without mom and dad we have nothing!" I said to the principal.
"That is where you are mistaken Tara. Your uncle is going to take you in. You guys are to be dismissed immediately." the principal said with glee.
My world had officially fell apart. Not only did my parents just die, but now I had to go live with my brothers. I slammed the door as I walked out of the office. I went to the lunch room to grab my ID and all my other belongings. I grabbed my backpack and returned to the office.
My uncle picked me and my brothers up from the middle school and took us to my mom and dad's house. The boy's followed me to my room and I packed up as much as I could fit in my suitcases. We loaded up my uncle's van and we drove to his house. He showed me around his house and he showed me my room.
I was super surprised to see my room. The room was painted sea foam green with light tan carpet. The bed looked palatial. It felt like he knew I was coming here.
"Uncle Tyler, Did you do this for me?" I asked
"Of course! I figured when your brothers left you would want to come visit so I asked your mom what your favorite color was and I took it from there. She was supposed to bring you here on your 13th birthday but we got into an argument before your birthday and she refused to talk to me. And the rest is history." He said.
I hugged Uncle Tyler and sure enough the moment was destroyed by my brothers.
"Come on Uncle Ty! We got basketball tryouts!" Michael shouted.
"Yeah! Lets roll!" Dominic followed. We all got into my uncle's van and drove to tryouts. When we walked into the gymnasium it smelled like serious B.O. which made everyone walking in nauseous. All around the corners of the room were girls who were dragged here by there older brothers and in the middle was a crowd of boys waiting to get their applications.
I scanned the room to look for my friends but I didn't see any of them. I saw people I knew but not none of then were my friends. In the left corner of the gymnasium I saw Blaire Conway.
Blaire Conway had been bullying me since 2nd grade. Nobody really knew about it except my dad. Now that my dad was gone it just my little secret. In the right corner of the room was Diamond Smith. Diamond Smith was the shyest girl in school. She never talked to anyone. She always drew. Most of her drawings were dark and depressing. I tried to talk to her once before but she wouldn't respond.
