It had been almost a year since the worst experience of her life had occurred. Her son was close to turning 2, and the very agent that had brought him home had been around as much as he could.

She'd kept in contact with the male, as he seemingly was drawn to Salem in the best way possible. He'd been there for his first steps, and many other firsts. Now able to speak, he'd nicknamed the doctor 'Spinner' since the 'c' was a little difficult for him to pronounce.

It had been around a week since she'd heard from Spencer, and she was growing worried. They'd never tell anyone, but they'd been in a legitimate relationship for around eight months. It was hard not to think it was crazy, but the two got along well since Y/N was a counselor at a local high school with a major in psychology. Her studies had led her to yearn for a college professor position when Salem was older, but for now, she was settling.

After putting the young boy down for a nap, she picked up her phone, beginning to find the male's contact number, only for the phone to begin to vibrate in her hand. The number was unfamiliar, and Y/N's heart jumped to her throat as she answered it.

"Y/N L/N?" A voice came from the other line. "This is Dr. Ferdinand, how are you?" She knew from the male's voice, she could tell something wasn't right.

"I'm okay, how are you?" She answers, pulling her cardigan over herself. She'd been to the doctor for a routine check-up earlier in the week, and was surprised to be getting a call.

"I'm doing very well. I'm calling to tell you that your urine tests gave us some interesting news. I'd like to congratulate you, as you're approximately two months pregnant." Y/N's eyes widened, her hand hovering over her stomach.

"I-I... This is so unexpected..." she mutters, looking out the window.

"I'm sure it is. But since you've stopped breastfeeding your son, your fertility increased. It's very exciting for you I'm sure." He speaks, clearly wanting to get off the phone to more pressing matters.

"Yes, yes it is. Thanks you doctor. Have a good afternoon." She quickly hangs up, only for the screen to fade back to Spencer's contact information. She doesn't hesitate to dial him.

Spencer was in the middle of a briefing, feeling his phone begin to vibrate. He'd not spoken to Y/N in days due to the case he was on, which wasn't u common for them. So for her to reach out so suddenly was cause for concern. Rapidly, he excused himself, getting a glare from his boss as he made his way outside to speak to the woman. "Y/N! It's so great to hear from you. I'm sorry I haven't called, work has kept me on a tight schedule." He rationalizes.

"Hey, don't worry about it. I figured that was the case. I just wanted to catch up with you." Her voice sounds distant, not so much in correlation to the microphone, but in her tone.

"Is everything okay darling?" He asks, the nickname slipping with ease.

"Yes! Everything is great! Never better." She claims.

"Y/N. There's something you're not telling me." Spencer offers, a hand digging into his pocket as his eyes fall to the pavement.

"No, I promise. I just miss you..." The sound fades out, and he sighs.

"I miss you too. The second I'm home I'm making a mad dash to you guys. How's Salem?"

"I think he's coming down with something. I gave him a babyTylenol to kill the fever and hopefully anything else that's going on." She explains.

"So close to his birthday? What a bummer." He groans.

"Yeah. That reminds me. Will you be home?"

"Home for what?" Spencer questions, before hearing his name behind him, turning and holding up a finger.

"Salem's birthday." She states firmly.

"I have no idea, listen I need to go. Duty calls." He jokes, Y/N growing quiet. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine." She mutters.

"Look, I'll call you tonight, and we can talk about what's going on in your mind, okay-"

"Spencer, I'm pregnant." His eyes go from the gravel to the tall male in front of him, brown eyes wide in surprise.

"R-Really?" He stumbles on his words, a laugh coming from the woman.

"Yes. I-I know you need to go, but I thought the sooner you knew-"

"Absolutely. I'll be there." She makes a disgruntled noise.

"Huh?"

"For Salem's birthday. He's gonna need to know he's getting a dad for his birthday." He smiles, sending his goodbyes to the woman before returning to work, questions coming from his superior.

Upon his return home, as promised, Spencer headed directly to Y/N's townhouse, carrying more than just a poorly wrapped child's toy with him. Ringing the door, he was greeted with Y/N's smiling face. A tight hug was given before a squeal came from behind her. "Spinner!!" A smile came to Spencer's face as he present the toy to child.

"Look what I've got buddy!" He cheers, sitting on the floor as he watched the child open the present, his mother watching fondly on. It was around an half an hour later that Y/N declared Salem be put down for a nap. As she stood, Spencer appeared to be doing the same, only for her to turn to him on one knee. Her jaw went slack, a hand covering her gaping mouth.

"Spencer..." She whispers.

"Y/N, I'm not about to become Salem's father without becoming your husband first. It's sudden, it's messy, and probably the last thing you saw coming, but I truly believe that this boy next to me is a huge part of my life, and his mother is the other half of it. And somewhere this new joy is going to fit too, because you and them are the best things about my life, and coming home to you all is the greatest thing about my job." He begins, letting out a chuckle before pushing hair back as he pulls out a ring. "Marry me, and I promise, I will never let this little boy not feel loved and protected, nor will I let anyone harm our child. I promise to give you the life you deserve, and the love you should've gotten a long time ago. Will you marry me?" His face is filled with nerves, the true part of Spencer that she expected, rather than this surprise proposal one that she had received. But without a moment to spare, she was wrapping her arms around him, tears falling from her eyes.

"Absolutely." She cries, the doctor's arms engulfing her in a tight hug. Y/N pulls away to press a kiss to his lips, only to laugh. "We're going to have to teach Salem how to say daddy now."
