Unexpected Love

Aaron took a step closer to her.

"You know what is puzzling me?" He asked, tilting his head to the side, studying her. "Why do you push men away? I mean, you are beautiful and smart. Any guy would be lucky to have you. So why?"

Amanda didn't want to discuss this.

Not now. Not ever.

She looked up into his intense blue eyes and found herself getting lost. She immediately looked away quickly. This man was tempting her to break her resolve. She couldn't have that. Being around him was too dangerous. She took a step back and took up her bag from the counter.

"I have to go." She said, turning away.

As she took a step, he stood before her and blocked her way. "What are you afraid of?"

She looked up meeting his eyes again. She set her chin determinedly. "I'm not afraid of anything."

He looked at her quizzically. His eyes bore into hers as if he was trying to understand her. She felt exposed, as if he could read her thoughts. She didn't want to be here anymore. She couldn't.

"I really have to go." She said again, pushing passed him. This time, he let her go. She walked to the living room and left through the front door.

She took a deep breath. She couldn't believe that the walls that she had took years to build to protect herself had almost shattered tonight. She really need to be careful. All she had to do is remind herself why she couldn't trust men again...
