The air in the room wasn't tense or awkward, but just staring at Luhan was making me fidget nervously in my chair.
Unlike usual, he wasn't staring at me for once - instead, his eyes were cast down, fumbling his hands in his lap as he occasionally sighed and shifted in his seat.
Dr. Kim was talking, about what - I had no idea.
For some reason, I couldn't take my off eyes off of the large bruise around Luhan's forehead, it looked to be healing but was still discolored in hues of purple and blue against his pale skin.
My gaze alternated from his bruise, to his lips - where two cuts ran jaggedly along his mouth.
I blinked when the people around me began to stand up, dragging their chairs to different corners of the room as I finally tore my eyes away from Luhan to glance at the moving flurry of noisy chatter around us.
"What's going on?" I asked Minwoo, a 20-something-year-old who had an anger problem that lapped over an issue with alcoholism.
"Dr. Kim is holding individual talks with all of us today," Minwoo answered, his tone bored as he blinked lazily. "The rest of us are just hanging around until it's our turn."
I nodded, watching him wander off before turning my attention back to Luhan. Unlike the rest of our group, he was still rooted in his chair, being the only one to stay in the broken circle besides myself.
I bit my lip, contemplating going off to find an empty haven, but sighed as I slowly stood up to make my way over to Luhan.
He glanced up when I approached, his eyes vacant as he watched me plop myself down beside him before leaning back into his chair and shoving his hands hastily in his pockets.
His hair was disheveled like usual, his clothes - carelessly worn. He looked like he always did, except for the injuries and the smirk that was usually placed on his lips.
My eyes scanned over his face, now realizing that from far away, his injuries had looked bad... Up close, they looked even worse.
The fight had been a couple of days ago and neither Sehun or Luhan had shown up for school for the past few days.
It was odd - though my seat mate and I hardly acknowledged each other, class felt unusually empty without his grumpy self by my side.
"You like what you see?"
I scoffed, quickly diverting my eyes away from studying Luhan's face as I focused elsewhere around the room.
Clearing my throat, I casually turned back to face Luhan, feeling a weird sense of relief to see a small smirk curved into his lips.
"What happened to you?" I asked. I could guess, but I hadn't able to witness the actual the fight since Mr. Lim had been waiting to pick me up. "You look like crap."
"Got into a fight," Luhan answered quietly, shrugging as he pursed his lips. "It wasn't a big deal."
"With who?"
I waited expectantly as Luhan shrugged again, his eyes staring at the ground before he broke out into a bitter smile.
"My brother."
I opened my mouth to validate if he and Sehun were indeed brothers, but was cut off by Dr. Kim who appeared, smiling as he stood over us.
"Luhan," he called. "It's your turn. I'll get to you after, Kyungmi."
I watched as Luhan lazily stood up, following after Dr. Kim - my eyes widening when I noticed his slight limp.
The pair seated themselves at Dr. Kim's desk in a corner of the room, their voices too quiet to carry over to where I was.
