35 // suspicion

The next week definitely did not go as the seven boys were thinking it would. Suspicions rose about Jimin and Jungkook's closeness, which netizens found more than the relation other members shared with each other. Namjoon held his head as he stared at the articles on his phone, all of them questioning Jimin's relationship with Jungkook.

"Jimin-ah!" Jin called out in worry, watching their leader frown and stress about all that was happening.

Jimin rushed downstairs, hair in a mess and droopy eyes; indicating how tired he was after yesterday's practice. Jungkook followed behind him even though he was not called, realizing the worry in Jin's voice as he had called for Jimin.

"Yes hyung?"

Namjoon sighed and thrust his phone into Jungkook's hands, turning away as the young boy read through the articles about himself.

"I told you to be careful," Namjoon whispered, voice strained and stressed. "What are you going to do now? You're both going to get bashed at. You know how our country is regarding all this, we can only do so much to protect you."

Jungkook gulped, visibly scared as he stared at the glowing screen in his hands, bold letters depicting his name along with Jimin's and haunting him.

"I- I didn't-"

"People have already found out. Please be careful. I hope nothing bad happens to you two. We'll try to cover up with some excuse but please be careful henceforth. If these rumours get confirmed, you're screwed." Jin spoke carefully, not wanting to scare the younger boy but at the same time wanting to tell him he was walking in dangerous territory.

Jungkook's shoulders shook the slightest bit as he shivered in fear. And Jimin stepped forward, rubbing the younger's back and placing his chin on his shoulder.

"Jungkook-ah," he spoke softly, almost like a whisper. "I'll just say it was me. Like in the past. I'll make it seem like a joke. Don't worry."

Jungkook visibly relaxed under his hyung's touch, thankful for having so much support through everything.

"Okay hyung."

For once, they both thought they were safe. They both thought that everyone would buy Jimin's excuse, just like how they had been doing so in the past. They both thought that things would go back to normal, but never did they realize 'normal' didn't work for them anymore.

Because the next day, Jungkook was woken up by Jin holding a newspaper to his face. The words were clear enough for him to read. And his heart stopped beating.
