After a dreadful middle school experience, I was very ready to start my first day at Ouran High School. It is an elite school made up of the children of very important business personalities. I knew I wouldn't fit in at the beginning. I had got into the academy through scholarships and financial aid. Putting that thought into the back of my mind, I grabbed my bag and headed out the door.
Once I arrived at the school, I realized I would not fit in even more. Tall, pink towers, A large courtyard, attended to every day, other kids being dropped off in limos. Only one thought ran through my mind, "Jesus Christ, today's gonna be a weird day."
I sat my books on my desk for 1st period, history. Next to me sat a pair of red-head twins and on my other side a brown-haired not-so-masculine boy.
"Hello, my name's Haruhi. It's nice to meet you." He smiled at me, oddly cute and feminine.
"Hi, My name's (y/n). It's nice to meet you too." 'Ten bucks he's a girl.' I thought, jokingly.
"Hey," the twins said in unison, "we're the Hitachiin brothers, Hikaru and Koaru!"
"It's nice to meet you both also." I said, smiling. I will never tell those two apart in my life.
I heard jealous murmurs throughout the room.
"How come she got to sit next to all three of them?"
"She doesn't even know how lucky she is."
"What are they talking about? Are you guys famous or something?" I looked over at Haruhi.
"All of us are in the Host Club," Haruhi stated, "come see us after school at 3:30 in music room 3. I'll be glad to see you there." He smiled at me and softly chuckled.
"Maybe I will."
The teacher began to teach. Not a clear explanation at all of what the club was but I'm willing to find out. That Haruhi person seems very genuine and sweet. I've got nothing better to do anyway.
(Time Skip - end of school)
This should be it. I stood at the doors to music room 3 at 3:20. It's better to be 3 hours too early than a minute too late, right? Maybe I'll be able to speak with Haruhi before whatever they're planning starts.
I put my hand on the door handle, turned it all the way down, and opened the door. Rose petals flew out and blinded me as to what was in the room. After wiping a few away from my face I saw 7 figures. Haruhi and the twins, a tall blonde, what looked like a 7-year-old and his intimidating brother or friend, and a smart-looking man in glasses that was taking notes about God knows what.
"Welcome," They all said in unison, "to our Host Club."
Flustered, my eyes widened as the taller blonde one approached me, lightly grabbing my chin.
"This must be what love at first sight is. My name's Tamaki, I can't believe I haven't been with you all of my life," Dramatically he puts his head in his hands, "please, my princess, stay with me." A single tear rolls down his cheek.
"Uhm..er...thats uh... that's.....good?" I look past him and see Haruhi. " Can I uh, speak with him for a moment?"
He looks mortified. Tamaki runs to a corner and pouts.
Haruhi strolls over to me, "Hey (y/n) I'm so glad you came. Today's gonna be a blast." He smiles that same feminine smile. I can't fully process that this adorable, petite little cutie pie is a boy.
"I'm happy to see you here too. I don't know anyone else and those brothers just messed around all 1st period." I shift my eyes from his face, a little embarrassed. Wait, why am I embarrassed?
"Trust me," he puts his hand on my shoulder. I feel my face get a little hot, "they are all great people as you get to know them."
"YEAH! *ahem* Y-yeah of course. People do get better the more you're around them ya know? He he...ha..." WHY THE HELL AM I SO FLUSTERED?! GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER (y/n)!
He laughs along, thankfully not seeing how embarrassing I'm being. "I never did tell you what this group is, did I?" He snickers. "Well, it's a group where boys act all romantic and stuff to make girls swoon and all that jazz." He leans in and starts to whisper. "As you can tell I'm not too enthusiastic about this. I was forced to. It's a bit complicated to explain now."
"So what happens usually during a session?" I ask. I'm starting to kinda like this idea. I have always been the hopeless romantic type.
"We all just eat sweets and talk."
I'm so doing this. It sounds fan-freaking-tastic.
"You should start by requesting to be with me. Then I'll show you the ropes." He glances at the clock. "Girls should start piling in soon. Let's get a table."
He leads me to a large table near the window and pulls out the chair for me . A few assistants take our orders for tea and sweets. Short after, a waiter comes to give us our cakes and teacups.
"So what brought you to Ouran Academy?" Haruhi asks, taking a sip of his tea.
"I got a few scholarships and financial aid. My family isn't as rich as everyone else's here." Haruhi looks at me giddily.
"Same here! Finally, someone understands what it's like to be normal here!" He throws his hands into the air.
"I know! For some reason, in math, They brought in an orchestra to play music while we worked! I was convinced I was in the wrong class or something. In middle school, the school could bearly afford to have running water." Haruhi and I start laughing hysterically.
"Honestly," Haruhi lowers his voice so no one else could hear, "I really didn't want to do the Host Club today, but you made it all the better and bearable. You aren't like the other girls here. They just want to be complemented and be able to tell their friends that one of the boys got close to kissing her or hugged her. It's nice to have a change of scene."
"T-thanks," I shift a little in my seat, "you're also not like the other boys. All they want to do is play sports and make out with hot girls. You seem to have more respect for other people than them."
"Yeah, I'm not like other boys in more ways than one," Haruhi mumbles. He nervously looks up at me and awkwardly laughs.
Internally freaking out, I manage to quietly squeak out, "W-wait, are you a...a girl? WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, I DON'T MEAN TO OFFEND YOU OR ANYTHING OH MY GOD IM SO SORR-"
"It's fine! Really." Haruhi interrupts. He glances from side to side. "I am a girl. My situation is forcing me to act like a boy. I'll explain it to you later if I have the time. I'm sorry to put this upon you so suddenly."
I leaned over the table and whispered into her ear, "I knew the whole time really."
Relief washed over her face. She stood up and walked over to my chair. She took my hand and I stood up.
"Thanks." Haruhi takes me into a hug. I close my eyes and we stand in each other's arms.
"Haruhi?" the host with the glasses suddenly is standing next to us, not looking down from his notes. "You have been requested by a few girls, finish up here then head to table 4." Haruhi's face sinks.
"I'll be there in a minute, Kyoya." Haruhi turns to me. "Please come tomorrow (y/n). I don't know if I could survive this place any longer without a fellow 'commoner'." She did the air quotes motion with her hands, "We're having a picnic in the courtyard at 4:00 after school. If you want, you could come earlier."
"I will. Let's meet after school near classroom 1-A," I adjust my dress and run my hands through my hair, "Okay?"
"Okay!"
