When Itachi had told Mikoto he was bringing home a girl, Mikoto didn't know how to react. Itachi had never been the son to just bring home girls so casually. In fact, neither of her sons did.

So it was a shock to see her son's twinkling eyes and reddening cheeks as he confessed to her - "Okaa-san. I want you to meet someone. A girl."

Itachi scratched his cheek and averted his eyes to his bottom left, small curling of his lips at the corners. It was a face Mikoto saw very rarily anymore but had memorized off by heart because it was the face of her very infatuated husband back when they were kids Itachi's age.

"Do you remember the important meeting I had with Hyuga Hiashi? There was a gunman and an outsider had saved us."

"I remember," replied Mikoto, skeptically.

She specifically recalled the day Itachi and his company had returned home. They were all a little flushed and suspicious and Deidara had to carry an unconscious Izumi from the car to the house.

Fugaku hadn't been surprised at what had gone down. His face had been stern and neutral the entire time - the fact Itachi was standing before him, unharmed, was proof of how minor this incident was. They had found out that the shooter had been from a small growing rival gang in the very corner and depths of the Uchiha's territory.

Fugaku made sure to visit them in the flesh, guaranteed that whoever was involved - even indirectly - were personally taken care of.

Itachi said, "The person who saved us, I have formally invited her to a dinner to thank her for what she has done."

"I see," said Mikoto with a nod, "I look forward to meeting her then."

And when Mikoto saw her, she was enthralled. Knelt behind a tatami door, Mikoto watched like a spy between a gap as a pink-haired girl was escorted through the compound.

The girl marvelled at the intricate designs of the zen gardens and koi fish ponds, eyes found with wonder upon meeting face to face with two large stone dragons.

Mikoto liked her instantly. And her admiration for the pinkette only grew as she proceeded to turn her stoic and unmovable eldest son into a bumbling hot mess.

"Yes...yes, she'll deliver me some beautiful grandchildren, indeed," hummed the Uchiha matriarch to herself.

"What are you doing, Mikoto?"

Said woman jumped, and at the same time punched a hole through the wall. She withdrew her slender arm with haste and flipped around, clutching her suddenly hammering heart.

"Fugaku!" She gasped, "You frightened me!"

The man's eyebrow quirked upwards. He leaned to observe what had captured his wife's attention and then glanced back down at her.

"Oh dear. Please tell me. You're not spying on our son, are you?"

Mikoto worked herself quickly as she stood to her feet, neatly pressing down her hair and calmly smoothing out her lovely silk kimono. Itachi had requested they stay in the room while he handled a fitting introduction, but Mikoto wasn't one to listen.

Her curiosity had been too overpowering for her to just sit still. She supposed she was being a bit awful but what Itachi didn't know was what wouldn't hurt him.

"I wasn't," she defended weakly. But she had been caught out.

Fugaku said nothing and after a moment ticked by, he pulled a thick file from within his sleeve. On the front in big bold letters was Haruno, S and immediately, the man got a sickly smirk that Mikoto loved.
