A/N: Hey guys! So this is the first chapter of my first book. I don't really know where I'm going with the story or if I'll even continue with it, but let me know what you think. Thanks to badas101 for giving me motivation to start writing.
This is my first time writing so please bear with me! I tried to edit some, but there are probably a few mistakes here and there.

CHAPTER 1:
Quinn woke up gasping for air, scanning the room for any possible threats. Cradling her head in her hands, she recalled the familiar nightmare that she had just woken up from. If only it were just a dream, she thought to herself. She couldn’t get through one night without reliving the haunting moments from her past.
‘5:53 AM’ she read off of the clock sitting on her bedside table. She didn’t have to be up for school until 6:45 but with the way her pulse was racing from the dream, she knew that she would never be able to fall back asleep.
She swung her legs to the floor and stumbled out of bed. Gasping at the sharp pain that shot through her ankle, she fell to the floor. Crap, she thought. How could I forget about yesterday?
Gingerly picking herself up, she limped to the bathroom to look at the damage done to her body. She winced when she saw the black and blue coloring around her left eye. Lifting up her tank top, she saw various other bruises littering her ribcage and hand shaped bruises scattered on her wrists. Even with the tattoos covering her body, the bruises were still noticeable. I guess today is another hoodie day.
She sighed as stepped into the shower, letting the hot water run over her petite frame. When she was done scrubbing herself clean of the dirty feeling of Miles’ hands on her body, she wrapped herself in a fluffy white towel and padded over to the mirror. Staring back at her were the two lifeless blue eyes that she had become so used to over the years. She let her long jet black hair air dry and quickly dried herself off before heading back into her room to get dressed.
She chose one of her many hoodies for days like these when she needed to hide all the bruises from her foster parents and classmates. No one knew about Miles and she wanted it to stay that way.
Lathering cover-up and foundation over her black eye, she flinched, remembering how his fist had collided with her face with a sickening thump. The makeup didn’t really cover the evidence, but at least it helped.
She was almost thankful that she woke up earlier than normal as her foster parents would still be sleeping. She wasn’t in the mood for making an excuse about how she ‘was so clumsy’ and ‘fell down the stairs by accident.’ Linda and John didn’t need to carry her burdens. She was just fine.
Grabbing a banana, she limped out of the house and down the street towards the school. It was a 15 minute walk, but it would take a bit longer with her ankle. She knew that she should have seen a doctor about it last night, but that would raise questions that she couldn’t afford to answer.
As she neared the school, she pulled her hood farther down over her face and her sleeves down her wrists, fearing what would happen if anybody saw the ugly bruises. He had warned her of what would happen if she told anyone and she couldn’t take that risk. She didn’t want anyone to get hurt because of her.
As she walked through the crowd of students, she hardened her exterior, staring back at anyone who looked at her until they looked away. She didn’t have to worry about people approaching her anymore; her tattoos and piercing eyes had warned anyone away a long time ago.
Glancing to the side, she saw the school’s group of ‘bad boys’ in their usual spot near the stairs. The twin jokesters, Carlos and Vinny Martinez were currently wrestling on the pavement, while Aaron Hunter, the silent one, was watching them with amusement dancing in his blue eyes. Quinn wasn’t surprised to see a scantily clad Tiffany Summers rubbing herself suggestively on the arm of the hottest member of the group, Xavier Black. Quinn watched as he plucked her manicured hands off of his shoulder and said something that made her pout and flounce back to her group of skanky friends.
Quinn was so busy watching the scene unfold in front of her that she hadn’t realized that his green eyes had locked onto her as she was limping into the school. His stare unnerved her but she refused to back down or look away. She was mildly surprised when she saw the corner of his perfectly shaped lips lift up at the corner as if daring her to look away.
She was forced to avert her eyes when a freshman boy knocked into her accidentally and sent a wave of pain through her abdomen. She hissed and grit her teeth and the boy’s eyes widened significantly when he realized what he had just done. “S-s-sorry!”, he stuttered, looking anywhere but her before scurrying away.

Xavier looked around the courtyard of the school with mild disinterest until his eyes locked onto Quinn Faye, the mysterious and alluring girl walking through the crowds. She was a puzzle; an enigma to him. He couldn’t deny that she was stunning with her long black hair, light blue eyes, pale skin and ruby red lips.
What he didn’t understand was why she was always alone. She didn’t have a single friend or even an acquaintance. Everyone feared her because of the ink covering her body, but to him, her tattoos didn’t make her scary; they made her more interesting and sexy.
Xavier had been studying her hooded figure when he saw her eyes rise up to meet his under the shadow of her hood. He recognized the blank and lifeless look in her pale blue eyes. What sucked the life out of this beautiful girl? he wondered to himself. When Quinn stared right back at him, refusing to back down, he smirked, admiring her fierce nature. Not many people would dare challenge dangerous bad boy of the school, but she just did.
He watched with confusion as she flinched and hissed when a freshman clumsily bumped into her. Is she hurt? She stared back at the poor boy after masking her pain, who recoiled when he saw the lifeless look in her eyes. He stuttered his apology and ran off, trembling in fear.
At that moment, Xavier decided that he would discover what made Quinn Faye the haunted girl that she was.
