if guns could only numb the pain

until the sun goes down again,

we'd all blow out our own brains

until there was nothing left to bleed.

if knives could only paralyze

our minds 'till everything's alright

we'd be slitting our throats

until it hurts to eat.

if pills didn't turn our brains to mush

or our hair, our nails, our skin to dust,

our tongues would be dyed yellow

and we'd damage our teeth.

if weapons didn't kill us entirely

but just wiped our minds out 'till we could think rationally,

we'd be killing ourselves day and night now,

wouldn't we?
