With the newly acquired glasses in hand, he went outside and walked down a street he recognized: Whitegate Avenue.  Looking at the glasses he saw that the lenses were totally opaque.  You couldn't see anything from either side.  He wondered how they would work. He went out behind an empty house and put the glasses on.  At first the glasses showed nothing but it was just that they were turning themselves on.  After a few flashes of light he could see the world again.  A prompt appeared in the middle of the view.  It was just a big 3D question mark.  Much higher quality than the other 3D displays he had seen.  Most of them were very gimmicky.  This looked very refined.  He concluded that that must be the result of decades of practice.  The view looked like the same scene as before he put the glasses on but he could almost make out pixels.  Clearly, he thought, augmented reality has come a long way.  There must be a couple of excellent cameras in the front of the glasses.  Imagine what the Aye!Contacts would have been like.

Jake wondered how he would interact with it the scene in front of him.  Being a computer programmer, he could make a guess.  He spoke aloud: "cancer".  The question mark disappeared.  In front of him appeared something like a paper sheet.  It looked almost real, floating in mid-air.  It showed various subjects related to cancer: causes, how to diagnose, treatment.  Fascinated, Jake tried to grab the paper.  In the process he saw the section of the page labeled "cause" light up and shift to a set of internet search results.  Finally, something familiar.  Clearly touching the paper is the equivalent of a mouse click or a tablet touch, he thought.  He tried swiping the paper.  Sure enough, it went back to the previous screen.  He clicked on the treatment option.

After about an hour, Jake had his answer.  Effective treatments for several types of cancer had been discovered but metastasized breast cancer hadn't been cured.  He had to continue on to the future.
