I was upstairs, sitting on my bed in my room. As soon as Melissa got home, the first thing she did was run over to me and hug me. I hugged her as tight as I could and rested my head on her shoulder, letting everything out. It felt as if I had lost everything. Technically, I lost MY everything. Nick was the other half of me. A year and 4 months, down the drain.

“Shh. It’s gonna be okay.” Melissa said. She always knew how to reassure me when things went wrong. It’s one of the things I love about her.

“Maddi. I need you to calm down, okay? Calm yourself and tell me everything that happened.”

And so I did. I told her everything I saw at the movies, and everything I told him. By the time I was done, Melissa had turned red. Probably from how angry she was at Nick. It was really quiet for the next few minutes. Melissa and I just lay there, and I was still hugging her, trying not to get my tears all over her shirt.

“Did you slap him..?” She said, giggling.

“Of course I did.” I responded laughing, and I could feel my shoulders bouncing as I did.

“What?! No way. How hard?”

“As hard as I could..” I said, trying not to laugh too hard.

Her eyes widened, and she turned to look at me. It felt awkward. Why? Because we were face to face, laying down on my bed. Err… Anyway, I started laughing because she seemed so surprised that I actually slapped him.

“That must’ve hurt like hell!” She said, looking at me and laughing.

“Well, he did deserve it.” I tried to say that in my most convincing voice.

“You’re such an evil little girl.” She muttered, laughing.

“I think I got that from you,” I could feel myself already recovering from what had happened. “I did grow up with you.”

“Yeah, but I wasn’t that mean. I don’t think I would have slapped Brandon if he did that to me.”

“Trust me, Liss. I didn’t think I would’ve done that either. But I did. So you probably would’ve too.” I said, raising an eyebrow at her.

“Ughhhh. Whatever,” She said, sitting up. Her hair got messed up from laying down, so I tried fixing it. I think I just made it worse.

“What do we do now?” I ask.

“I dunno..” She said, looking at my pictures hanging on my white wall. “Oh! I bought you something to make you feel better. I’ll be right back.”

“Uh. Okay?” I wonder what she got me.

While waiting for Lissa to come back, I decided to check my phone. I pressed the home button and saw that Kenneth had left me a bunch of text messages around 10 minutes ago.

“Hey Mads, I’ll be at your place at around 8:00.”

Wait.. eight o’ clock?! I glanced at the clock. It was seven fifty. Oh shit. I get up and run towards the staircase.

“LISSA!”

“WHAT!?”

“KEN TEXTED ME SAYING THAT HE’S GONNA BE HERE AT EIGHT!”

“WHAT THE HELL?! DRY YOUR EYES AND PUT ON SOME MAKEUP THEN!”

I burst at laughing at her response, and walked back into my room. I dried my eyes and washed my face, but I didn’t put any makeup on. And then the doorbell rang.

I walked out of my room and saw that Lissa had opened the door for him.

“Hey Maddi.” Kenneth seemed to be smiling at me when he said that, so I smiled back and said hey.

“Mads, did you finish all of the chinese food?” Melissa asked.

“Not all of it. I finished your left-overs.” I said giggling.

“... Well alrighty then. I’m gonna go to Glendale and buy some food. You guys want anything?” Agh crap. Melissa was leaving. I’m gonna have to tell Kenneth about what Nick did.

“Nah. I’m good.” Ken responded.

“Can you get me a green tea frap from Starbucks?” I asked.

Melissa rolled her eyes at me, and said, “Fineeeee. Anything for my darling little sister.”

“Thanks youuuuu.” I shot back.

And before I knew it, Melissa was out the door.
